strnage question

what really intrigues me is, what language was the movie originally made in? italian? polish? and if it was in italian did Piotr (Karol) perform using his mother tongue or the pizza-origin-one?

reply

The movie was originally made in Italian. But most of the Polish actors were dubbed. I don't know if Adamczyk was dubbed or not but I read that a lot of Poles were. You should go to more details on the official site of the movie probably. I don't look for such details because I am not a particular fan of this movie. I only liked it and that is it. The movie is not bad but it also leaves much to offer. However, it is difficult since Wojtyla's life was too rich to accurately present in one film.

The best movie so far about Pope John Paul II was, in my opinion, Krzysztof Zanussi's FROM A FAR COUNTRY (1981). It was a perfect movie about the times Wojtyla experienced and with a number of original archives from his own life.

Another question: In the scene where Father Zielinski is giving the German officer his last rights before the officer is shot, and then Father Zielinski is shot and killed for defying the higher-ranking officer, who recounted this scene for the movie? Did one of the German soldiers recount it? Otherwise, the two main characters who are shot and killed are the only ones who could recount it.

reply

I think it can all by found in the documentation from the occupation time.

After all Germand had to classify that sort of things somewhere.

Besides documentation, maybe some memories of Hans Frank?

reply

Hans Frank recorded his memories before his execution. He wrote also that he deserved to die and hopes god will forgive him.

The film is in English. The actors spoke English. This is the "original" version.
