Where's the love?

The "Godzilla" series has always overshadowed the "Gamera" series, even after the release of 3 excellent genre pics in the 90s restoring "Gamera" to glory. So why the deserted board? Does no one remember or care? This series spans 50 years and 12 films. I just completed my dvd collection of this classic monster series & will be enjoying a marathon over the next few weeks. Pity the board is deserted.

I enjoyed these movies on their terms, those being that they are meant for children.

GAMERA THE INVINCIBLE! Pretty Good Story! Desperate Attempt to Create New Pre-historic Monster Franchise! Washed Up American Actors! Did I Mention Pretty Good Story?! The Beach Boys said it best when they said FUN! FUN! FUN!

Deadly Monster! Adventure! Spaceships! Flying Saucer Monster! Beautiful Space Women! Missle Attacks! Wholesale Destruction! DESTROY ALL MONSTERS!

These movies have everything! And they're a hoot!

WHAT?! There are MORE Gamera movies?!

(It appears you started something now. I hope it doesn't backfire)

I did have fun with these titles.

Gamera: Defender of the Universe, Gamera: Advent of Legion, Gamera: Revenge of Iris & Gamera: Brave Littles were the most recent.

Wow -- I hadn't even heard of those!

I recently borrowed a three title collection from a friend and watched (so far) War of the Monsters (1966) featuring the newly hatched critter -- Baragon. Not a bad film, just Baragon was a funky design.

Anyway, fun stuff. Strangely enough, parts of this War of the Monsters reminded me of Aliens (1986) and The Terminator (1984).

I have several Gamera movies in a DVD box set, but I haven't watched them in so long I barely remember them. I've seen some of the MST3K versions, but GAMERA VS ZIGRA was the only one so far I found decent enough. Great color, and that Zigra woman was hot.

I've never seen any of the movies made after the 1970's. Never those three from the 90's. Were they dubbed? I heard of one from 2006, but have never even seen it for sale in a store.

Really, Gamera is overshadowed by Godzilla for obvious reasons. He is cooler, and has better movies.

I would highly recommend the 90s Gamera trilogy(better than any of the 90s Godzilla movies), as well as the 2006 film, Gamera: The Brave. All are exceptionally well made Kaiju flicks.
