As we say in Turkey, I'd break my own skull rather than breaking my neighbour's wish :-)
So we have a Turk discussing.. I completely agree with what's been said, and so much so that I offered my friend Lampros to make subtitles for this series and send it along to Greece with him. Not for money, just because I wanted Greeks to enjoy this fabulous show as well.
I however have to disagree with something in the OP. Turkish and Greek people have nothing against each other, it's the politicians that impose the animosity. Luckily though, that's changing pretty fast as well. I won't get into politics here, anyone who wants to discuss politics can PM me. But generally speaking, I think Turkish and Greek people are the closest nations to each other by all means, and whatever may have happened in the past, there is no need or use to resent each other. I've been in Greece, and loved the people! I eat at Greek restaurants all the time here in Canada, and I hang out with Greeks rather than frozen Canadians.
Before I forget, shopkeeper girls hugged me in Athina as I replied with "ego tourkos malakas" (I know it's bad grammar, well now I do hehe..) when they asked me if I was Portuguese. And the coin collector gave me 2€ off even though I paid with my credit card.
Back to the subject, my favourite character is Nazli's grandpa. But then again, I know him from his earlier works, and he's an excellent actor, and one hell of a funny guy.
By the way, the Turkish you hear on this series is not the actual Turkish accent. It's a local accent from the city of Gaziantep, and only Nazli; and her little brother talk the way most Turks do.

i'm turkish firstly.
i couldn't watch the first episodes due to exhaustion of ''tv series storm''
on turkish tv channels.then yabanci damat appeared in this crowd because of its really thrilling story and actors.yeah, it's not the best tv series in the turkish broadcasting history but it has a different story and humour style...
a turkish boy and a greek girl may seen more acceptable for many conservative people(turkey is administered by a rightist-former islamic party, ''AKP'')
it was too risky to write a script about a relationship between a turkish girl and a greek boy;but the manner of this story excluded all kinds of risks and the prejudice settled in our minds.it showed us the similarities of two sides of agean sea and how the ''same'' we are...

"it was too risky to write a a script about a relationship between a turkish girl and a greek boy". This is a huge hyperbole! Tv Channels of this right wing administered Turkey feature thousands of other stuff that would strike at the heart of conservative values. What do you mean by risky?

i am turkish too
i like the show so much because it is very funny. especially Nazli's grandfather and Niko's grandmother are great characters. they look as if they hate each other but it is not the true actually. if they fall in love each other in the later episodes we should't be surprised.
By the way since i can't speak greek i don't know how turkish actors speak greek well in the series. but Katerina Moutsatsou (stella) speaks turkish very well i think.

By the way since i can't speak greek i don't know how turkish actors speak greek well in the series. but Katerina Moutsatsou (stella) speaks turkish very well i think.
Katerina played in Yilan Hikayesi and Kayikçi as well. I think she spoke pretty good Turkish in Yilan Hikayesi back in 1999, too. imdb trivia says she learnt Turkish during the shooting of Kayikçi

I personally notice that it's not good at all, plus I heard it from my Greek friends BUT the most hilarious thing is that the Greek Channel puts subtitles even when the actors speak Greek!! It is indeed obvious those Turkish actors dont actually know Greek, unlike Katerine knowing Turkish.

You know, I haven't even seen the series yet, but from what I read here, it promotes love and peace between greeks and turks and I approve of that. The "hatred" between our people comes from politicians, and from politicians only. I think that Greeks and Turks are very much alike, we share similar food,music and culture. Now I'll go catch some episodes on youtube. And I'm a Turk.
