What would you have done differently with this show? spoilers

After reading these reviews, I definitely share the writer's frustration with the direction, or lack thereof, in this show, even though SEED and Destiny are the only Gundam shows that I am familiar with. Aside from all the clip shows and flashbacks, my biggest beef with this series is that the writers ultimately made Little Miss Perfect (Lacus) and her nancy boy (Kira) and the rest of the cast from SEED the stars. The writers had so much potential with Shinn, Rey, Lunamaria, Talia and Heine. But noooooo. They just had to piss it all away and give us a boring rehash of the ending to SEED.

So, what would you have done differently?

Here's a list of things I would strongly consider doing:

1. Have Heine live.

2. Have Lunamaria tell Talia what she overheard Kira say to Athrun about the attempt on Lacus's life and about Meer being an imposter. (For the lot of me, I cannot understand why the writers didn't have her do that in the first place, considering her reaction to the way Meer kept clinging to Athrun.)

3. Have Shinn and Rey decide for themselves about the Destiny Plan without any influence by Kira or Athrun and defect from ZAFT and stop Durandal from implementing the Destiny Plan.

The bottom line is this show should have focused more on the new characters, not the old characters. Considering everything I've read about the Gundam franchise on mahq.net, I'm definitely going to have to watch the original Gundam and ZETA Gundam sometime.

Anyway, let's go back to my question. What would you have done differently with this series?

1. I would have seriously reduced the amount of screen time and intelligence of Kira and Lacus. The fact they were always right was one of GSD's biggest flaws. I would also restrict Kira to the Freedom. The Strike Freedom was just stupidly strong and made Kira untouchable.

2. I would have put more development into the Shinn/Athrun (Student/Teacher) relationship. I feel the writers really messed up by having them become enemies just when Shinn was become a likeable character.

3. Deffinately would have put more effort into the Murrue/Mwu/Neo set up. The way the writers left their relationship was seriously stupid.

4. Deffinately keep Heine alive and kill off one of the Hawke sisters instead. Most likely Lunamaria as she was a highly annoying and jealous brat. The Shinn/Lunamaria relationship seemed like it was thorwn in at the very last minute.

Those are all great points from both of you guys.

I kind of understand why they gave Kira a new Gundam,but did it have to be so powerful.He went from untouchable in the Freedom,to God Like in Strike Freedom.

More focus on the new cast

Some main character death's.No way in hell Kira was supposed to survive the stabbing in Freedom,and it's nothing short of a miracle that Athrun was NOT killed in that Blue gouf(AKA a grunt suit that is known to get owned).

Some more justifiable reason's as to why Lacus thought Durindal was such a bad guy.Lacus never had met Durindal,and Kira didn't meet Durindal until the last episode.Lacus didn't agree with the Destiny plan,but only two nation's were opposed to the Destiny Plan(ORB,and Scandinavia)so I don't see what the problem over it was.

Lacus and Kira alot of times just based their actions over pure speculation without any factual backing what so ever.Kira hopping into battles without knowing what was going on got Stellar and the pilot of the orange custom Gouf killed.

Thats an excellent point about Kira/Lacus/Duriandle. There was no real need for Kira and Lacus to come to the judgements they did since they didn't actually understand.

Yeah, another thing I would change are the names of those final mobile suits piloted by Kira and Athrun. Strike Freedom and Infinite Justice are lame.

I wouldn't say Kira was totally untouchable in the Freedom. He take quite a beating from Clotho, Orga and Shoni before Athrun turned up and the Freddom sustained heavy damage from Clotho and Orga when he was trying the rescue Flay. Then there was the fight with Rau Le Kreuze in the Providance, where the Freedom also sustained heavy damage.

The Strike Freedom on the other hand. Now that did make Kira truely invincible. I don't think he took any damage at all in that suit

Clotho and Shani damaged the Freedom. Orga was the one who retreived Flay.

Personally, I think the beginning of Destiny was really well done. It just got really boring when Kira and the Archangel showed up again. And the ending was absolutely rushed.

1) They definitely needed to do more with Neo. When he ended up with the Archangel crew they should've had him start working both sides. Instead he just becomes the good guy when he was a bad ass in the beginning of the series. Also they should've had a way better explanation of how Mwu La Flagga survived.

2) They should've made Rey have a better suit than the Legend. Rau Le Crouset piloted the Providence like a pro. Rey got his ass handed to him by Kira's Strike Freedom. Should've threw in some sort of zero system for Rey to level his skills with Kira.

3) Athrun shouldn't have been such a chump at the beginning of the series. He should've owned all those other suits. And when he got the Savior, with the exception of the first ep where he got it, all he did was shot at something, transformed, and flew around.

4) They should've did a lot more with Yzak and Dearkka. I like their involvement in trying to stop the colony from crashing but they didn't do jack afterwards. Like what happened to the Buster and Duel?

5) I personally didn't see a problem with bringing in Strike Freedom and Infinite Justice (gotta sell the new version of the toys) but man they should've had other suits that could've competed against them.

6) Heine should not have been killed off that quickly. He should've been in it for as long as those Astray chicks did in Seed.

There's probably more but that's all I can think of right now.

Yes, the beginning of Destiny was really well done because it was so action-packed. And yes it did get boring when they brought Kira and the Archangel back in the spotlight.

As for Mu, yes, they should have had a better explanation as to how he survived. Of course, they didn't exactly explain how the hell Waltfeld survived the destruction of the LaGOWE in SEED when he should have died along with Aisha.

I also wish they had developed Rey's character differently. There should have been more of a story between him and Neo seeing as how they were brothers. I also hate how they made Rey and Shinn into Durandal's dogs. I wish the writers had the two of them defect from ZAFT after hearing about the Destiny Plan just as Athrun officially defected from ZAFT after hearing about his father's plan to wipe out all Naturals.

for me..

- i would really like to change the Athrun/Shinn relaitionship.. they shouldn't had made them enemies in the end but allies instead..

- i would like to change the LunaXShinn pairing also.. its sux.. i rather prefer meyrin than her...

- i would like to change the ending if ever.. coz in the beginning, they focus all the spotlight on shinn.. how strong he is.. how skillfull and how great.. and in the end he had a spotlight as a crying baby having kick his butt by Athrun.. it'll be better(even though i dont like shinn) if at the last moment shinn snap out at his head and join kira and athrun.. he and athrun should made the final blow in requiem.. and he and kira on the other hand ends durandal's misery instead of lacus...
