A Few Theories. (Off The top of my head, mind you.)

1. I read on Wikipedia that there is speculation that there may be other Gantz teams out there and one central sphere in Germany. So, maybe every once in a while, they all compete against each other to determin which one has the best soldiers. And the losers die or something like that.

2. If you think about it, Kato would look exactly like Izumi if he didn't slick his hair back. Maybe, since you get your memory erased when you leave Gantz and Izumi's already played before. Maybe When Izumi died the first time, his original body didn't die like with Kishimoto. Remeber, Nishi said something about another guy who that happened to. Maybe it was Izumi, or Kato, whoever he was originally. So, if it was Kato originally, and that would make sense because he has a family that you see and Izumi is living by himself, maybe when the copy, which would be Izumi, woke up from having almost died, maybe he had some sort of amnesia and made up a new identity for himself. But then there's that fact that Kato hates killing, so maybe he's the copy and Izumi still had amnesia when he appeared in the room. Anyway, that's just a theory.

3. (Spoiler alert.) Since Gantz dissapeared at the end of the Anime, that may help my first theory. All of his soldiers were dead (We Assume.) So he was instantly out of the running so he just dissapeared or was sent back to the central sphere.

4. Maybe Gantz is an evil alien. And the other aliens that the hunter's kill have been sent to earth to Destroy it. Gantz is trying to take over the world, so it has to eliminate all threats to it. And it has to work in secrecy so it made Tae and mission objective so it won't be found out by the normal humans. However, that doesn't quite answer why humans can now see the Gantzers.

Also, Does anyone know why the timer and the cloaking and all that just turned off? And since people can see them now, are the Hunters aloud to talk about Gantz to other people without their heads blowing up?

How can Gantz Fit inside the sphere. It's okay when the guns and suits come out, but when all that stuff is back in there, how is he not crushed to death?

im not sure how much you have seen or read, i havnt seen the anime, so i dont know how much of the manga story you get to see either.
at the moment in the manga, there has been references to other teams, most recently in 230, and yes there is a big ball in germany, though it is unclear of how it is related to the other balls; like if it is just another ball, or if it is like the grandfather super ball or somthing.

Its also moved away from grantz being a game, and it looks like a war on aliens. The feel of the manga has changed a lot latly. It also sounds like you don't know about the vampires either.

and kato and Izumi are not the same person, in any way. they are two different people, simple as that. I know it sucks that kato dies, but izumi just looks like him, and doesnt act like him at all. you should try to read the manga if you miss kato.

you should read the manga, from what iv heard about when the anime ends, it ends right before the story gets awesome.
google gantz manga download or something like that, there are a ton of sites that you can find it on.

In regards to theBattleHills, I have read all of the chapters so far and have only missed one or two episodes of the kurono alien mission. And about Kato and Izumi, I do know that they are two different people, but as my title says, they are simply theories that are completely off the top of my head. And yeah, it totally does suck that Katou dies, he's my favourite character, I'm so glad that he's back.

I also have another theory:

For those of you who have seen the entire anime know that Gantz simply disapears at the end with no explanasion. But, if you'll remember, in the first episode, the Gantz simply appears in the room with no explanation. However, later in the Tanaka (or is is Suzuki?) alien mission, Nishi says that he had been coming to the room for over a year now. So maybe the Gantz just leaves the room when nobody is in the room. Again, just a theory.

Also, does anybody know why Gantz opened his eyes during the buddha statue mission? It's been bugging me.

gantz opened his eyes?!?!?! how did i overlook this!! if your speaking about the mangas, which episode is it (i downloaded them all)?

!!!PLEASE IF YOU HATE HAVING THE STORY RUINED, AND YOU HAVENT PASSED THE GRUMPY + ROUDY ALIENS YET, DONT READ ON!!!

i think that the gantzerz are all still alive, even if their origional bodies are dead - its just like they are clones of their origionals, so the origionals are dead, with no concience, and the copys are brand new, with the memory of the origional upto the time of death. this is proven with Kishimoto, how she killed herself in the bath, but when she came to the room with gantz in it her real body (which was supposed to be dead) was found in the bath and taken to the hospital, where she was revived. SO. Kishimoto's origional body is alive, without any recollection of gantz, while her copy was created for gantz and is fighting monsters. anyways, that hardly matters, because she is killed by the final buddha alien, as well as the rest of the team minus Kurono who only gets his arm and leg ripped off but he stays alive. Still, Kurono and some other survivors all get over 100 points after destroying the Oni alien's (not the vampires, they havent been killed yet) and bring a whole bunch of older characters that had died back to life.

!!!OK YOU CAN READ AGAIN!!!

my thoughts on gantz... well i dont think it really matters that he shouldnt be able to fit inside the ball while the weapon racks arent extended... i mean the racks themselfs probably are too big to be able to fit inside... but come on, if a guy can make copies of dead people and make them fight aliens with about a million different paradox's surrounding the whole thing, i dont really think gantz would have trouble bending some rules so that he fits inside the ball.

another theory that i dont think has been spoken is that gantz is trapped inside the ball by someone else. i dont think that gantz ever leaves the ball, considered how he is hooked up to the thing - i think it would be extremely difficult for him to plug himself in and out of it, besides, he doesnt have any clothes on, so he wouldnt want to expose himself to people nude.

I'm not sure which episode it is that Gantz open's his eyes, but I think it is at the end of an episode when they are fighting the rowdy alien, the grumpy alien, and the giant Buddha statue.

Also, I don't think that Gantz would really care about exposing himself to people. He's rude enough as it is.

I have a theory about the doppelgangers since they only sometimes happen. I think it is only people who commit suicide that have “copies” My theories behind this is because Neishi has that laptop that he leave in random places to communicate with someone…I think that could be his doppelganger; I believe he committed suicide because of his mother’s death. (It says he fell off a bridge *or a building or something of that manner*…yay, that makes since right?) And he knows he’s not supposed to tell other people about it…why? Perhaps because his mother did to him? Or because he wants no one to know you can, communicating with his doppelganger and all. Kei also had a doppelganger, and I believe this is because of her suicide. My guess as to why that would be is because it would piss off the Gantz to not admit them into it’s death realm.
My other theory is that the person who wins not only gets to bring one person back, but that they then must pick the next team…no matter how long it takes. Possibly the old lady had at one point in her life beat the game, then for the rest of her life had a mission to find these people and “recruit” them.
My other theory is that the old lady is the alien, and picks out those people, and the person inside Gantz is the person who won the last game. And recruits those that the alien old lady chooses, then makes a hellish trial for the new team to defeat. I back this up with the fact that Gantz was pissed off when Kurono shot at him, or at least the man inside, and turned the game to kill the Kurono alien!

Well danethepain your theory about Kato and Izumi is wrong. They are different people, but there is some type of symbolism in the fact that they look alike, yet they do not act the same at all. Kato was not before Izumi.Izumi entered Gantz as one of the past players who fought along with Nishi.Kato came after.

And as I've said before, I know that there is no relation btw them apart from the fact that they are both in Gantz. And as I also said, These are just theories that I thought of out of the blue with no substance. I was just really bored one day and felt like thinking of some stuff about Gantz.

Then try thinking of some theories that have substance so its more interesting to talk about.I always enjoy a good talk about gantz. :)

I don't mean to shoot holes in your theory, but that just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Izumi is a prime example of all this. After he was freed from Gantz, he was returned to his home with no memory of what happened. Only when Gantz was pissy about having a bunch of losers for his team did Izumi do any recruiting, and then he actually killed people. But not everyone who died that day went on to Gantz's room. There seems to be some other type of selection going on here. Maybe Gantz can only take the people who die inside of a certain area. That would explain why in a country of about 127 million people only a handful show up in Gantz's room.

I originally thought that Gantz was trying to start a war, but, since we now know that there are other Gantz teams throughout the world, I've had to discard that theory. I now think that there's no point to any of it. The whole set-up of the hunt, the secrecy, it's all just entertainment to Gantz. All of the limitations he places on the hunts, those just make it more fun for him.

Kurono's punishment for putting a gun to Gantz's head was to be sent solo on a hunt. And that old lady only appreared once in the manga. I think the script writers were just making up stuff to fill out the anime.
