MAJOR things that were never played out in the anime

for me:

- what if they had just done nothing?? I SERIOUSLY thought this was the point of Gantz for a long time!! Especially after the Temple Alien told them, "Why did you start attacking us?".

I REALLY thought, that at the end, the Kurono Alien mission, that they would do nothing, and EVERYONE would return when it counted down and something would happen. Like Kurono would go back in time to when he was on train platform.

- Old woman. SEriously!! Who was she?? What did her character signify??

- Teleporter gun. WHY WEREN'T THEY USING THIS EVERYTIME??

I mean this is big plot-hole for me! They didn't like killing right?? So why didn't they just decide to use the teleporter gun everytime!!

Again, I perhaps thought that if they did a mission using just this gun and no-one died, they would all win or something. I EVEN thought somehow that the aliens were all actually humans! That Kurono actually knew! This idea was massively boosted when the Temple Alien actually told Kurono it was human and then Kurono himself became an alien target! (I think I'll make another thread about this)

And so, of-course, it was never explored where the teleporter gun actually takes ppl!!

- the guns only worked sometimes!!! The guy shot that Nishi kid and nothing happened! Why!?

- Just the aliens!! They almost seemed more like nightmarish demons to me, which led me to believe that perhaps the whole thing wasn't really real, like it was a simulation or something. But they're never explained at all!!

probably a few more I forgot but these are the major ones

1) If the timer runs out they will go back to the room, or gantz will kill them if they don't get a specific amount of points

2) She was an innocent that had no idea what was going on, just trying to protect her grandson.

3) Don't know only Kato seems to use this weapon, but it is very effective except sometimes the aliens see it coming and can escape it.

4) The suit protected him from the guns, thats why he died during the bird mission, in this series Nishi is a frickin champion of gantz just to arrogant to remember the basics about his suit, b/c I guess he's 13.

5) It's real and to tell you the truth these first 3 missions, onion alien, bird alien, temple aliens, thats for beginners, the aliens become much scarier and harder to kill later, much harder to kill.

I own all the manga volumes, so if you do have questions I can answer them pretty precisely, if not s'all good. Hope that helped.

thanks, and it's good you got the manga and all.

But just from watching the series I could reply:

1. That's never actually proven.

2. No you're thinking of the wrong old woman. I'm talking about the old woman that asks Kei for directions.

5. OK. But there's alotta scope for something else.

But yeh if you're versed on the manga then I'll accept your answers anyhow.

1. Gantz forces them to kill with the rules and keeps them confused, otherwise it would explain the various weapons and reasons for "playing".

2. It's been a while since I've read, but I remember the old lady was actually gantz testing Kei if he has the right stuff for the game.

I could be wrong though...

3. Same as my first point, they didn't know enough about it to use it reliably. Besides killing is easier when your afraid and confused about your enemy.

4. In the manga its explained that the weapons have no effect on wearers of the suit, probably because of friendly fire.

5. If you don't mind spoilers The aliens are invaders to conquer the planet and feed off of humans like cattle. Other aliens sent their technology to earth for humans to combat them. Interestingly enough the "rules" were created by German scientists or socialites as a sick joke for some reason I can't remember.

I hope this answers some of your questions.

Very little is explained in the anime so I will give the answers from the manga.

what if they had just done nothing??

The point of the game is for the participants to earn points by killing aliens. Stronger aliens give more points. After getting 100 points an individual can choose 1 item from the 100-point menu:

1) Be freed from the game with memories erased
2) More powerful weapon
3) Resurrect 1 Gantz participant (presumably a person who was killed in an earlier mission)

If the participant's goal was freedom, then he is forced to play or be a prisoner of the game forever.

Old woman.

She was just asking for directions. Kei had the knowlege to be helpful but chose not to. The point of that dialogue was to show that Kei was the kind of person who wouldn't go out of his way to help another.

Teleporter gun.

The Gantz participants are not briefed and have very little knowledge of their equipment. For example it takes several missions before they figure out that the next room has bikes and swords.

the guns only worked sometimes!!!

When Nishi was shot, the gun was working but suit protected him from taking damage. But this reduced the suit's power which made it less effective during the mission.

Just the aliens!!

The aliens are explained near the end of the Manga series. There is an advanced alien civilization who have been invading other planets and enslaving/eating the inhabitants. However, one of the victim species was able to fight back. They learned the patterns of the antagonist species, figured out who their next targets would be, and broadcast the designs for the technology that would be needed to repel the invaders. Thus the Gantz program was created on Earth. Meanwhile the Earth was already being visited by a few different alien species, some which decided to stay under disguise. The Gantz missions are essentially for the teams to practice their skills on these settlers, until the final conflict against the main invading force.
