Lisa robbed AGAIN.

I thought she would definitely win the Emmy this year, but seriously, Julie Louise AGAIN? Baffled.

At least Veep is a good enough show. No idea why she won back in 06 for The New Adventures of Old Christine.

But this year the Emmy voting system changed. A lot more people were voting and there was no proof of them watching the tapes. Case in point, previous Emmy winner Margo Martindale won for Guest Actress for a throwaway 2 minute scene she had in an episode.

Julia is incredibly popular and her performance was good too (not as good as Lisa obviously but good enough to stand out). No way was she not winning.

I love Veep and Julia Louis-Dreyfus is great in it, but come on now. She's won the Emmy for this show four years in a row.

I think it's time to give someone else a chance. Though the Emmys have never really been known to mix it up very often in terms of winners. See: Jim Parsons, Candice Bergen*, Helen Hunt, Laurie Metcalf, Doris Roberts, etc.

*After winning five times for her role in Murphy Brown, Bergen actually removed herself from consideration for further awards for the role.

Maturity. The very staple of the IMDb message boards.

I am also very angry about this. I told myself surely Lisa would win because 1) She's amazing in this and one of the best I've ever seen performances by an actress on TV. 2) They brought the show back nearly 10 years later because of the cult following.

The Emmys look like a popularity contest now. It really killed me since she didn't win. Her performance in this show is Oscar worthy in every way. JLD again? That was just sad. Just goes to show no one really watched The Comeback because if they did I'm sure people would've voted for Lisa. How could you not?

I was so disappointed for Lisa. I would have LOVED to see her get recognition from the Academy for 'The Comeback'.

reply

Its because of the limited audience of the show ?

reply

I don't know if that's it or not. I was SURE she was going to win, I thought the nomination was an acknowledgment that she was snubbed last time she was nominated.

I think mmmaspirin is correct, for while the show undoubtedly developed a loyal following, it didn't have the mass appeal of Veep.

Veep was up for 9 Emmys and won 5, where as Kudrow was the lone nomination for The Comeback, so she was underdog to win.

Just a thought, but Veep is a show about incompetent people motivated by their egos in politics and we're all comfortable making fun and criticizing politician, so the show sort of aids us with our scene of superiority.

In contract, The Comeback is a show about Show business people who are largely incompetent and motivated by their ego, so maybe the show just strikes too close to home for too many members of the Academy.

I mean if you were to follow in the day of the life of any Academy member, you'd probably see a little Valerie in each and every one, so perhaps that's why The Comeback wasn't embraced more.
