Have you considered watching this and kept putting it off? Watch it!

It's ****ing great!

After hearing about The Comeback for ages but never quite gathering up enough motivation to watch it, I finally got around to binge watching both seasons last night. It wasn't my initial intention, it was just that damn good I didn't want to stop.

Up until yesterday Lisa Kudrow, for me, was nothing more than the blonde chick who played the annoying character on that show. Yeah, I got over that. Now what I see is one incredible actress with amazing comic timing. First episode of season 2 cemented that realisation for me.

It's beautifully crafted, it's funny, it has heart, it never insults your intelligence and it had a very satisfying ending. Admittedly I went in with not very high expectations only for them to be far exceeded. If you enjoy mockumentaries this is without a doubt up there with the best of them.

The purpose of my post? It's for anyone who, like me, was aware of this show's existence, but just couldn't quite be bothered to invest some time to watch it, maybe because of the subject matter. I don't work in the industry and have absolutely no desire to, but I was still able to connect to the characters on a human level.

Do yourself a favour and watch both seasons to get the full experience. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's definitely worth your time.

Always happy when I see new people discovering the show usually because I share the exact same first reaction . I too started watching it out of curiosity and without any expectations. Then it got under my skin without even realizing it.

The show first clicked for me during episode 2 when she has a tiny freak out about her name not being called during the upfronts. That tiny moment where she goes "why would they even bring me up here.." is so subtle yet engaging, I forgot I was watching a self-involved actress wanting the spotlight and was emotionally responding to a human being feeling defeated.

And what I just described doesn't have to be people's reaction to the scene. It works on so many levels which is again part of the brilliance of the show. It doesn't explicitly tell you what to feel. One scene can show heartbreak, deserved punishment, satire, ridicule etc... (and all at the same time).

The DVD has a "commentary track" for that one episode by Valerie Cherish herself (Lisa Kudrow in character). Not as funny, since it's not scripted, but adds a bit to the meta-narrative.

It is ****ing great. In fact, I'll go so far as to say that it's *beep* great!

I'm in your camp. Vaguely heard about the show when it first came out, but never bothered to watch. Never bothered to learn much about it, in fact. I mean, the aging actress of Friends having to create a show about a "comeback" that revolves around herself?? Has kind of a pathetic ring to it.

But that's only if you don't bother to learn more about it than the title.

In fact, it's brilliant. And gosh, my respect for Lisa Kudrow has shot threw the roof. Not just starring, but writing and producing this stuff? Phoebe Buffay?? Incredible.

And excuse my reference to "aging actress". Lisa is still beautiful and if she's aging, she's doing as graceful a job of it as anyone could.

Badgers? We don't need no stinkin' badgers! But if you could show us something in a nice possum...

Her comic timing is there in "that show" too.
