For someone who has never read the manga but wants to watch the anime

Hi

I am interested in starting a collection of this anime series but I have a few things I need to know before I begin to invest any money.

Firstly, I have never read any of the manga and am a complete newbie to the series. I have become interested in collecting the anime since I have heard it is one of the greatest anime series produced. I don't really have any interest in reading the manga but I do want to start watching the anime series.

From what I have read the anime series ends on episode 366 however the manga is still being produced. So from this, does the anime series have a proper ending even though the manga is still going or does it end on a "to be continued" vibe.

So to get to the point I don't want to waste money buying all the series if at the end I'm left with an unsatisfactory conclusion. Again please keep in mind that I have no knowledge of the manga, so if there is anything from the manga that is missing in the anime it won't bother me. What I am looking for is if the anime series can be watched from beginning to end and be a satisfactory experience just by itself, or will I be left hanging and regretting it?

reply

I'm not too sure as i haven't watched it all through.

But as someone that used to love this show to death i wouldn't recommend buying it at all. The fillers completely raped the good aspects of the show i remember at one point the amount of filler had surpassed the amount of manga adapted episodes.

With the decline in animation quality I'd recommend reading the manga.

Are the filler episodes really that bad that they spoil the entire anime? Or is it just the issue that they depart from the manga?

reply

Well they spoiled it for me, i stopped watching eventually and just transitioned to the manga. With that said i loved the anime especially in its early days. Maybe look at getting the anime up until the soul society arc finishes and then make your own choice?

The filler did depart from the storyline and that would be fine if it didn't take such a steep decline in quality.

But maybe I'm just being being biased :/.

Ok, thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I think maybe I should save my money for some other series instead. I'll keep an eye out for a different good quality long running series (at least 100 eps)

No problem, try giving the manga a read if you're still interested.

they make it sounds so bad, if you never read manga it shouldn't bother you much because you never know what will happen actually. Filler is just some special addition for anime that's adapted from manga to make it a little bit different (not much), you see if the anime copy 100% from manga it will be boring because manga reader will know everything, and I read/watch both manga & anime of Bleach, the filler is not so much, like 20% only. You still can give it a try, its great.

Actually they didn't want any filler in the series at all originally. The only reason there was so much was the difference in time between how often the episodes came out and the issues of the manga. They ended when they did because people were getting so upset at all the filler. The creator has said though, that once the manga is DONE (which I believe it is now) they will continue the anime and run it through to the end of the manga because once the manga ends there will be no more need for filler episodes.

Why not give the show a chance online? If you like it you can still decide to buy it or not. You can always skip the filler episodes (the filler arcs are even separate dvd boxes, or at least in the UK).

You could probably watch up until the end of an arc. I haven't watched this show from the beginning, but both Naruto and Dragon Ball can be watched up until the end of the first arc and have a satisfying conclusion. Shows like this usually start a plot, resolve it, and then start a new plot that builds on what happened before.

Hi there Bleach enthusiastic,
I must say there are many Good long running ANIME each has their own unique base plot to hook up the readers and viewers for it's success. I heard that the bleach Manga although long running has some addition of stories that support the Bleach characters in their developments.
Give it a try you will found it entertaining

The anime ends on a satisfying conclusion. Yes, the manga continues, but the anime ends on a good note. And you never know, the anime could always return. Quite a few anime have returned after a long absence, and with Bleach being released on blu-ray (even before Naruto) and a live action movie being made, I wouldn't be so quick to rule out a return. But even if it doesn't return, the anime does end nicely.
