thou hast seen this

i just saw a screening and i don't think the movie really works. it's a great try and at least finally australians are trying there hand at something other than coming of age stories of young nymphs. but i reckon geoffrey wright was on some serious drugs and has tried too hard to make an impact. his action scenes are great but overall i think the movie is a mish mash of movie styles - maybe that's what he wants.
worthington seems to be in another picture. he's very strong and charismatic and often you want to get back to his scenes because he's exciting at least. maybe he doesn't nail the part but it's not as boring as some of his other films. i read that he might be doing some james cameron film - it could be he's blowing smoke up his own arse - but i reckon it's time he worked with someone who can take his talent and use it constructively. what more could he really accomplish in australia.
victoria hill must have been wrights girlfriend?? he loves to linger on her unimportant vague face and her performance seems pieced together by some dodgy editing. she reminds me of elvira and doesn't really offer much more than a scholck horror performance.
lachy hulme who i heard was up for the joker before heath took it, looks like he's trying hard but macduff is always a thankless role. and i kept seeing the joker damn it heath.
the other boys flounder under the weight of the passionate language. but i liked steve bastoni even though he didn't do much.
they all downplayed the speeches but it kinda worked you just have to work a bit as an audience. i wonder if people can be bothered.
overall it's a fine action film, not great but different to the usual arty bull that australia spits out. it needs more pace and some of the sex scenes seem real 80's porn. but it's different. and i think that that is a good thing.
