When we first see him, he is being refused admission to the club, presumably on the basis of looking the opposite of cool - and yes, he did not look attractive to me and I wondered why she went for him. Later on, I though he looked better in some shots: and the thing she kept saying about him was that he was funny. A major, major point - women will overlook many physical negativities for a guy who makes them laugh or feel good about themselves and he was nice to her. He picked her up after work, which was her goal in a boyfriend.
