Melodramatic much?

I don't know about anyone else but I was rolling my eyes during half this movie. I sat down to watch it because I really liked Alison Lohman in White Oleander and in Big Fish, so I figured it couldn't be too bad if she was in it...

Now, it wasn't the worst movie I have ever seen, but I was bored for a good portion of the movie. It just didn't have a very strong plot. And her character was always crying or whining "SHE NEEDS TO SEE THE SKY WAHHHHAAA!!!" So melodramatic! You would think they were sending Flicka off to a glue factory! Or my other dramatic favorite:

"Its ok Daddy. You can shoot US." *Cue Tim McGraw's crying scene*

Ugh! Give me a break! Maybe you need to really like horses, or live out west to really get this movie? I dunno...

You're right, she IS a good actor, she plays a whiney girl really well.

My ex showed me this video, I liked it, aside from Tim McGraws bad acting. People have different tastes when it comes to movies, I for one though Maria Bello was freakin' hot!

Coming from a person who has horses and loves them this movie was utter trash. All she does is go "waa waa waa!". Oh here horsie have an apple and be instantly tame. But don't worry you dont need to wear a halter. I will just try chuck a bridle on you instead. Oh you don't like the bit you have never seen before. Never mind instead of getting you used to it like a normal person i will just put you in a bitless bridle instead. Here follow me and instantly know how to lead. It goes on lol

reply

My friend's can't stand watching this around me cause all I can do is bitch about how much of a spoiled brat the main character is, and how utterly ridiculous the horse related scenes are... This movie makes horse people look like a buncj of retards.

It was a little fast Rchiz, but don't exaggerate; the horse kicked her, threw her and scared her out of the pen after the apple scene, so it wasn't THAT easy or fast to tame her.

reply

I agree with everything you said OP I felt exactly the same about this film.

reply

Yes, OP, you really need to like horses to understand. Or dogs, cats, fish, birds, reptiles... in fact, anything that shares this Earth with you. After all, they *were* here first, and owned this land before you appeared.

I feel sorry for you, because it must be a bleak life to live, unconnected to the world in which you exist. This is a majestic world we were born into, but humans seem to be hell-bent upon destroying its intrinsic beauty. We pour concrete over anything green and call it progress.

The mountains and sky will be here long after all humanity is gone. And, in this brief moment we have here, it's a dastardly crime to waste any of it.

Try empathizing with those of us who feel a strong connection to our Earth. You would be a better person for it.

Ummmm....I'm sorry but I fail to see how this has ANYTHING to do with my original argument....?

Apparently in your dream world, disliking some of this movie's acting and plotlines = hating mother nature and all its "intrinsic beauty"?

Ok...

*That* is what my post responded to. IYO, the emotions felt about losing her horse and the other "dramatic" moments were "melodramatic."

You're entitled to your opinion, but your opinion comes off, to me, as pretty cold and heartless. And, again, if you haven't thrilled to a magical moment or two looking at Nature and her beauties... well, that is very sad.

I wish you better experiences in life, before you have to leave it.

reply

Oh please.

reply

Good riposte. Eloquent and, dare I say it, a bit melodramatic.

reply

lol What exaclty would you like me to say? I'm not going to sit here and argue with someone via the internet! If that's how you get your jollies, by all means continue...but judging by most of the posts on the topic, most people seem to agree with my viewpoint . You see it as a movie of the ~wonders of nature~ or whatever you want to call it. I see it as a lame horse movie.

Franky, I don't care enough about it to go on.

reply

I put it on out of boredom today and I had it on until just after the attack. A horse died for this film, the script and acting were poor, the relationships unbelievable, and its more than a bit ironic that this thread is about melodrama and we have mother nature posting here

reply

Whaa?

I thought it was ridiculous. Katy ripped that poor horse from the wild, taking away Flicka's freedom, and insisted on breaking her. Then she freaks out when the horse is taken from her. I particularly hated the bit at the end when she says about how free she feels riding Flicka, when to accomplish that she had to remove all freedom from Flicka.

This film isn't about admiring nature, it is all about humans and the way they ruin everything.

reply

I couldn't agree with you more! During the entire movie, I was complaining and yelling at the screen for being so cheesy. Also, having experiences with horses, I can safely say that at least half the crap in here was unrealistic, if not more.

If i didn't like horses so much, I really doubt I'd of liked this much.

Team Edward. obviously.
Team Kristen.
Team Breaking Dawn.

reply

I laughed my head off at the "Youn can shoot us" line. Hilarious. Although unwittingly, I presume.

The main character was a horrible brat, and I wanted to slap her all movie-long. The horse scenes were just ridiculous. You ask if you need to love horses to like this movie, I'd say it's the contrary.

The only people who can really enjoy this movie are 12 yo girls who have never had / ridden a horse in their life but have pony posters up their walls (next to the dolphins statues) and wish they could ride.

I *beep* love this movie. It is beautiful and yes it is corny but some people like corny. And a lot of people agree with the message this movie sends about preserving the west.

I'm not defending Katy's whiney-ness, except to point out that she is supposed to be 16 (12 in the book). And most 12-16 year old girls are emo and dramatic and whiney by nature. In fact, I would have been annoyed if she didn't come across as an emotional dramatic mess half the time.

So you may not have liked the fact that she was emotional and dramatic, but it was true to the character she was supposed to play. I think Lohman did a good job.
