Will This Scare Me Too Much?

I rented alot of j-horror movies tonight so I'm posting this same topic on all the movie's message boards haha

I'm a big horror and j-horror movie fan but shocks and surprises don't scare me(although they are fun) yet disturbing material really has an effect on me. I like getting the creepy feeling from movies like "The Ring" or say "Halloween" and really weird and creepy films are good once in a while just to get the chill factor but I have trouble sleeping for days after seeing realistic portrayals of horror. After seeing movies like "Twin Peaks the movie" I always prepare myself to get ready to be scared and have a good light hearted movie viewing afterwards. So is this one of those movies wher I should brace for powerful material and have a good comedy movie to watch after?

Thanks! ^_^

well, it's more like a "WTF" movie, instead of a shocking horror flick.

there might be some disturbing images (torture, sadistic stuff etc.) but you won't scare the *beep* out of you all the time, they don't make you affraid, they show you more what this other form of life is all about, what's the difference between the filmed world and real world.

it won't scare you that much :P

Frightened by this? Probably not. Disturbed, offended, disgusted, and confused. Highly likely.

Let me first explain why I didn't find this frightening. Personally, I have a strong aversion to vampirism - I find it neither erotic nor frightening. I find it to be just plain grotesque - both in reality and its fantasy representation. To me, oral consumption of blood is an upsetting idea in the same way consumption of feces or urine - it's just wrong, and there's nothing exciting or fascinating about it. That doesn't, by any means, imply that one can't make an incredibly exciting or interesting movie on the topic of vampirism - but unfortunately, I believe this film fails on several levels.

Most of my complaints are technical (I would have preferred the movie a great deal had the entire film been seen through the protagonist's viewfinder, for example). There's something very immediate and oddly alluring about digital, amateur video footage - if used in the correct context. Peeping Tom, which predates this by 45 years, is worth checking out.

I realize Marebito was filmed over the course of eight days, which is an extremely impressive feat - but that doesn't necessarily secure the success of the finished film. The film too often relied upon staged explicit imagery when subtlety would have better served the themes of the film - delusions/insanity/insecurity/spontaneity... However, I believe the director's intentions were sincere and enthusiastic - and after watching his interviews (dvd extra feature), I liked him a great deal.
