hu??

ok, so, wtf is this movie about, i understand that this guy is trying to achieve the feeling of terror and all that but the rest of the movie kinda lost me, so "F" is his daughter?? then how comes she has fangs and drinks blood, and who keeps making the weird phone calls?? see, part of me thinks that hes so obsessed with trying to achieve the feeling of terror that he drives himself mad and imagines the whole underground place, the underground place being a metaphor for him descending into madness but then where does all that video footage come from, is he imaging it? and what the hell is going on at the end, has he killed his daughter?? why was she filming him and smiling?? omg, i don't think a film has ever made me this confused, please help me, its been irritating me for ages now, i need some sort of explanation but like a really dummed down one coz i cant understand anyones theories on here. ill appreciate any replies. thanks. x

The Japanese seem to enjoy the challenge of taking far out material, and translating it into film! Ideas like: "Horror is an ancient wisdom, locked in our subconscious.", says a lot about where this director is, and where this film attempts to take you. While I have to give this film high marks on technique, the director never seems to get a firm grip, on the story he's trying to tell. It begans with the idea of the "Deros", and the "underworld", but later hints that the camera guy simply went crazy, the bloodsucking girl was actually his daughter, and even that one of the women he killed, was his wife! These all seem to have been afterthoughts, rather than initial story elements however. Films delving into extreme fantasy, often face a major challenge: The story often loses out to special effects! While technically well done, Marebito seems to suffer from this shortcoming.
