I found this one implausible, mainly because who in their right mind would ever think Rachel Bilson hotter than Jacinda Barrett? I can see the reverse but not this.

In the Italian version the Michael's character cheats on knockout Giovanna Mezzogiorno but it's more believable because (1) Martina Stella is an uber knockout and (2) she plays the seductress so flawlessly and convincingly, something Rachel Bilson simply fails to do.

Other annoying things about the US version.

The Coldplay song KILLS what would have been a reasonable romance scene.

Zach Braff speaks through his nasal passages, and is an alarmingly ordinary actor.

The misogynous overtones throughout.

The idea is not that he has an affair with her because she is more attractive. The idea is that he is attracted to her youth - and how she makes him feel like he is young again. This fits with the overall crisis he is having at the time. He feels like he is not ready to grow up yet. He feels that he has missed out on his youth. His girlfriend and impending fatherhood represent to him that he will miss out on the freedom of youth. That is why the Rachel Bilson character is so attractive to him. To him, she represents an escape from responsibility back to youthful freedom.

Your post really makes me want to see the Italian Version. I really wish it could have been some one other than Rachel Bilson!I found her immediately annoying. Also, she looked just as old as Jenna! She just held herself as younger and has a smaller frame.

I definitely preferred this one to the Italian version. That was the one, IMO, that was totally implausible. Francesca was too young and the whole uber attraction seemed laughable. She was way too hot for him, and he was too dorky. Not so much in this film. I also liked the Coldplay song in this film, and the overall soundtrack better in this film than in the Italian one. I also liked the father better in this film, especially when he said: "Love isn't what you say or feel, it's what you do". Different strokes for different folks.
