Chris gave up too easy?

Don't you guys think that Chris gave up too easily on his marriage, for *beep* sake, he could've tried more. We could see that his wife tried, but he could've given it a chance, I personally feel it was pretty unfair to her what she did.

I think what he did was fine. It's best to not torture your soul and try to make it work with someone with whom you now only have conflict. I'm glad he found some peace and happiness because they probably just weren't meant to be in each others' company. Some things just don't jive together.

"Oh, my God. Bear is driving! How can that be?!"

It looked like he had been dealing with that for a long period of time, so maybe they did try but it hadn't worked and got worse. It's hard when you don't feel those emotions you felt when you first went into the relationship.

This is actually the only thing I think I don't like about the film is how easily Chris gave up.

Well I'm sure he knew his wife better than anyone and realized it was never going to change. If things are that bad so early, is it realistic to believe it's going to get better and not worse?

I got that impression, too. We don't see much of their relationship, other than her bitching at him several times for doing things the 'wrong way'. It seemed like their baby was very colicky, etc., but she came off as the type of new mother who thought she was the only one who could do things the 'right way', didn't give him a chance to be a dad or even try, constantly bitched at him, and things escalated from there.

It looked like she was coming around, but by then he had had enough, I suppose. Unfortunately, it seemed like he had fallen out of love with her, which happens. I did like that he ended up being there for his son anyway, and was willing to co-parent.

He was really the only character I liked in this movie (although I liked the movie)! Everyone else seemed so self-indulgent. And I think Casey Affleck is great.

His wife was a bitch plain and simple. I could only imagine living with her would be the equivalent to a life sentence.
