They don't live happily ever after

The factory and its owner the movie is based off of, WJ Brookes and Steve Pateman respectively, went belly up in 2006, 1 year after this movie was released. This was due to them not being able to keep up with cheaper competition in China. It's pretty sad when you think about it. There is some irony in that the legacy of this film (including the musical) will probably last longer than the original footwear line that inspired the film.

Just goes to show you that nothing is forever.

Saw a program on BBC where the factory closed and the guy was last seen as a salesman at fetish fairs selling imported boots - all a bit sad really.

I was thinking about how much those shoes/boots would cost with the steel heel and support and being semi-handmade. I'm sad to hear the factory didn't last.

It is better to believe the fairy tale than the real life tale.
