Not at all what I expected

I'm so pleasantly surprised all I can do is grin with delight. What a wonderful little film.

I see a lot of people want to debate stereotypes, of race, and gender, and sexual orientation...

But I kind of think this movie didn't try to take on the responsibility of being the voice of any of those things. This really isn't about any specific "type" of person, it's about Charlie. And Lola. And the people who revolved around their worlds and how their two worlds intersected.

The quality of this movie really surprised me; I didn't expect such beautiful production values. And I just really liked the story. Sure it's kind of predictable, and it's been told before in a lot of different iterations, but they made me care about these characters and their struggles and triumphs, and I think it was a success. The rest is just set dressing.

I agree. Race and gender seemed to melt away as I watched this movie and all I saw were people. I think that's the point. It made me smile and cheer. Great film.
