Loved the movie to pieces, but I wish Lola had been given...

I feel it would have been cool to make parallel storyarcs for Charlie and Lola. While Charlie and lauren's romance blossoms...so does the romance between Lola and Don.
It would have made perfect sense: Don's initial curiosity/attraction-that-turned-to-hostility towards Lola could have stemmed from his struggles with his own sexuality.
All throughout the film I was expecting/hoping for the dragqueen and the shoemaker to fall in love.

Although I loved the film, I still feel kinda pissed about how the ending felt like a mix of tropes: magical negro-meets-sexless gay best bud. While the white straight dude ends up happily ever after, the black gay dude gets...a job selling shoes.
Meh.

I know what you mean, but I prefered Lola not falling into the stereotypical romance fluff.
She's a strong woman who has had to fight for her place in the world, and to show a man might have given the wrong impression of her strength faltering. Maybe if a sequel had happened - but I, personally, think we needed to see Lola standing proudly on her own self earned stilettos.
