Fundamental English Subtitles Mistakes??

Watched this on Film 4 recently and am sure there are some subtitle number mistakes that detract from the film.

Near the beginning it is stated, as a reason for not changing the method by which a new leader is elected, that the tradition is 100 years old. I thought, big deal, not very long at all.

Later, the story of the original 5 survivors and founding members of the tradition is said to have begun 300 years ago. With all the visuals shown I thought this must be a mistake and must be more like 3,000 years ago and so the previous 100 years quote was likely to be 1,000 years.

Can anyone confirm??!
