Dark Ride was great.

Dark Ride was great. Yes- it used the cliches and old-school campy-ness from the 70's and 80's horror films...and that was the POINT- to make a scary, funny, gross, and entertaining horror flick. Can anyone name me a horror movie that has come out in the past 5 years that was actually original or good (besides 28 days later of course), because every movie has been a crappy re-make, sequel to a re-make, or prequel to a re-make. So although Dark Ride borrowed the CLASSIC elements of the genre, it was a pure, classic horror film. Loved the characters, loved the dialogue, but most of all I loved the death scenes. Dark Ride was a horror movie with all the ingredients for one hell of a horror movie.

Hate to tell you Hybrid but this film was NOT scary. Yeah, Singer stole the masked face from Leatherface. Stole the "van" and the "college" kids idea from TCM. Plain and simple it wasn't shot very well and the editing didn't deliver the horror at maximum effect. Plus, the music tipped all the scares. Characters were pedestrian, dialogue was "Hey I'm a film student" written, and the death scenes were done with no imagination. Probably the horror film that worked the best in recent memory was The Descent for it's simplicity but Slither was better and even SAW 3, which was the best of the trilogy, was a better made film.

leatherface's mask was a humans face, Jonahs was like a cherub face..? yeah.. oh and the death scenes had no imagination. When was the last time you went to the movies and saw a dude getting head, and the chick thats blowing him-gets her fking head sliced off? I'd have to say that you never have.

I think the comparison with the mask is just that a deformed face was being covered. As for the death during sex scene, there was a Jason movie (early 90's) where the girl is riding the guy in the tent, jasons machete comes through her chest, and he cuts her in half. Not quite a BJ death scene, but a death during sex scene none the less.

All good points. This was intended to be a 70's/80's retro-horror film. This did borrow elements form those "Classic" genre films.

The problem.

THEY DIDN'T PULL IT OFF. They had all the ingredients, but then botched the making of the film. If they had put it together right, edited it right, used the time more effectively, and had some good sound/creepy music than I'd be on the other side of this debate.

They didn't though, so unless this was a "Within the Woods" production that will lead to an "Evil Dead"...the makers should burn the film and try again.

Is Hybrid a shil for the production company. Dark Ride was not that good. Next time, invest the money in plot development instead of shooting your load on getting Meadow Soprano.
