Movie in the Lou...Black Hole

It is always nice to see a production filmed on location in St. Louis. It is a great town to film a movie, with plenty of good landmarks and eye-catching sites. The "Quantum Research Lab" is actually the St. Louis Science Center, which gets completely destroyed along with downtown including the late great Busch Stadium and the giant Gateway Arch. The scenes of destruction of famous landmarks haven't been seen too much lately on television in this manner, so the effects for the viewer are heightened.
Overall, it was a movie for the sci-fi viewer. The same one who watches movies about giant killer mammals, bugs and birds. Black Hole at least gives viewers something different and much more interesting to look at. It is a good movie with decent effects combined with a fantastic location. Im sure viewers in Missouri appreciated seeing their city featured on TV. It killed me to see my favorite city in the world be destroyed by the Black Hole.

I know exactly where you are coming from. I'm sitting here watching it thinking "when is the black hole gonna get to my house." Not often do i get to see my city on the TV. I also rented 8 other movies filmed on the streets, let me know and i'll give ya some names!!

My first thought was "awww the old stadium" then an hour later it was "crap it got the stadium"

Maybe for the 5 years old sci-fi viewer. Or "iq 20" viewer. It's a piece of crap. Oh, no, it's a new movie genre: anti-sci-fi.

I agree. Watching this movie was excrutiating. The subject heading would better be written "Movie in the Loo.." because that's where I would like to file it.

Exactly as the original post suggested, this one is strictly for the crown that likes "Creature From The Black Lagoon" and old Flash Gordon serials where they find pockets of air in a crater on the moon. Best viewed for what it is.

In fact the entire solar system, sun, planets, moons, gas dust and rocks does not contain sufficient mass to form a black hole. IF an existing black hole were to drift past the solar system from outside, we'd all be sucked in before we ever knew what happened.

Actually Some of the phenomenon that may occur in the vacinity of a black hole due the extreme gravity can be simulated by a particle accellerator. This is because there is a similarity (Einstien's equivalence) between gravity and accelleration. The decelleration of the particles suddenly smashing into each other can mimic the extreme gravity, However, you just cannot make a 6x10^40 ton black hole out of ten pounds.

One other comment for anyone still reading <grin> Someone asked "What's the speed of Dark?" ... well conservation of energy requires that Dark be sucked into a lightbulb at exactly the same rate as light is emmitted, therefore the speed must be c, exactly the same as light. qed
