Ending of the film (spoils)

How would you have wanted Allein to end?

I felt that since there was a need of change for the characters, also the film should have concluded one.

It's rare for a film to work without a definitive ending, a conclusion.

If you study Borderline Personality Disorder you may find that the ending of the movie makes a lot of sense. She is like an wounded child with amnesia - there is no safety or healing for her. She will eventually dissapear or blend into the next persona she studies and adopts in order to find her place.

EXCELLENT BOOK on the topic is "Sometimes I Act Crazy"

(I must ask where you saw this film. I saw it at the 2005 Seattle International Film Festival where it played one showing and I've not been able to find it since.)

I was at the same screening!!! Are you that redheaded lady in the front?!

Just kidding, please excuse me. ;) I saw the film at the other side of the globe at Helsinki International Film Festival last september. The director was also present and explained the character similarly.
The two sceenings with the festival were the only ones in Finland.

Thanks for the recommendation. You seem to have studied the subject. Any personal experiences?

Now that I think back, I find the ending fresh as it wasn't typical. But seven months ago I was dissappointed. 8)

I agree with heatherthered, I think the ending was almost perfect, especially since I can't stand movies in which all problems are solved all of a sudden, (not even necessarily in a classic "happy end" way), all doubts and worries and fears are gone, because that leaves me unsatisfied and gives me the impression that what I just saw is not real (of course it's not, but it's supposed to feel real), is not affecting me, or, is not affecting real life. I like ends which are kind of uncomfortable, it keeps you reflecting about the movie over and over again.
"Allein" ended authentically; because some people and "some things never change, nothing's gonna change that" (Built to Spill - Conventional wisdom ;-) )
