Funny you mention that, as I juz read this article in one of the paper. The answer is NO, there will be no sequel for Sepet. She (or he? ehem) got no plan to do so, and she will never make one, as the film itself has no ground to create a sequel.
But, the good news is, there will be a new film called Gubra directed by, you guessed it already, Yasmin Ahmad and even the cast will be almost identical, with Sharifah Amani, Choo Seong, Ida Nerina and Harith Iskandar will play a major role in this new film. The first rehearsal will take place somewhere this month.

It's up. Gubra IS Sepet's sequel. Check the Star paper yesterday.

The ending of Sepet justifies that the story has ended and thats it. There won't be much to talk about if there was Sepet 2.

I love all the nuances of the style that Yasmin used in the Petronas ad's. However sometimes..the style seemed out of place at times.

But I like how Yasmin manage to slip in two homages to Wong Kar Wai's films. Fallen Angels and Chungking Express. Although it was only a mention of names, she is a legend for doing that cuz WKW is my most favourite director of all time.

Apparently it's true. There was an article in one of the papers a few days back about it. I think the story line is she's married, and he cheats on her, then something something.

I think a sequel just screws up the WHOLE movie. It's poignant the way it is, but sequels more often that not break a film's reputation, and I have a feeling that's what a sequel to Sepet would do. Making a sequel just seems to me to be totally commercial, trading off Sepet's success to make another buck or two. Yasmin Ahmad is in danger of creating a teeny boppy phenomenon, instead of art.

i think it's clear that Gubra isnt exactly SEPET 2. gubra is a story about a couple (whose husband is a bilal) living in a neighbourhood with a bunch of prostitutes as their immediate neighbour. the characters from sepet lends their continuity in this film, but the film isnt about them anymore.

i think what yasmin has done is to actually create a whole new believable society where each character has it's own story and motivation, and each are intercorrelated and cannot exist without each other. so yasmin's free to tell which character's story, whichever way she deems fit. i guess that's why yasmin was quite reluctant to call gubra as sepet2. coz that wasnt the way it's supposed to be understood by the viewers.
