Naked Lunch?

Was it just my imagination, or was there a rather out of place reference to Naked Lunch thrown in after the end theme before the library episode?

Not to say the reference didn't fit the episode, but it was pretty much the only glaring pop culture reference throughout the entire series, at least that I noticed. Perhaps not the only one, but the only one that was blunt about being a reference, ya know?

So was I just missing incredibly obvious references (or perhaps considering them to be rather subtle) and there was a lot more of this going on, or was it just thrown in out of no where?

For those who've never seen Naked Lunch, I'm talking about Kino's conversation with Hermes and a cockroach typewriter is mentioned.

It's been about 2 years since you posted but yes I noticed the typewriter remark. Very strange and random. I haven't noticed any other references.

The episode in question was about books. Hermes asks Kino what she thinks about works of non-fiction, such as the idea of waking up and discovering you're an insect (Kafka's 'Metamorphosis') or having a cockroach typewriter (William S. Burroughs' 'Naked Lunch').
