The African-American girl in the school

This is my first time watching this movie. I just watched it today on LIFETIME and I have to say this movie was ok, I'll give it a 6 1/2. Anyways, I have a question about the African-American girl that vanessa befriended later on in the movie. First of all, is she the only black girl in the school? Also, how come she wasn't popular she is very pretty and she looks like she could be popular.

reply

No, she wasn't the only one. There are actually a few that were in the "white tornadoes" group of b*tchy girls. Who knows why she wasn't popular. I guess cause she wasn't a b*tch.

reply

She seemed like a nice girl who tried to stay out of the way of those insecure brats. Maybe she was a victim to their verbal attacks once and just wanted to lay low. Pretty girls aren't always popular, a lot of times it depends on the crowd you hang out with or your personality.

Yeah she was pretty, but she was also smart. Too smart to be dealing with trailer trash bimbos that need to rag on other people just to gain a social status. That girl didn't have time to put up with people like that because obviously you had to sell yourself short in order to be popular. It's not about being pretty with them....the truth is they need a clan to feel secure. Without those girls, what can they do?

this is ezactly what racheal simmons tells us in her book of the same name its all about cliques! Girls feel more secure in cliques. They get the whole school against you so that they can be sure that they have everybody on their side and not the other girl. That's what i got out of reading the book anyway!

If you love Jesus Christ and are 100% proud of it copy this and make it your signature!

her character seemed to represent girls that have a life--an interest in something outside of gossip.

There were other African american girls who were part of the gossipy clique, but they were background characters.

I think this girl was new, which is why the other girls didn't like her.

reply

Yeah, Emily was cool wasn't she? She was a waaaay better friend to Vanessa that DICKI and Stacey were to her!

reply

I'm guessing it's because either:
a) The popular girls don't like black people
or
b) The girl was much prettier than them and they saw it as a threat

This has to be the most dummest post. I have seen
"why wasn't she popular she was so pretty"
Since when has being pretty made you popular?
The looks help if you are popular.. But when I
was in school, the most unattractive ones.. where the popular
ones. And most popular know how to dress and have style.

The was the only african american girl they casted sadly, but she was a great girl in the film
She didn't want to be "popular" because it would mean becoming one of the white tornados, which she despised. She didn't believe in popularity because of the way they treated Vanessa.
I respect that girl so much. :)

she was clever.

we see eg. in the class with vanessa answering questions, she does as well.

also her personality she isnt that outgoing so probably just didnt fit in with popular girls.

there could be other reasons we dont know about eg. she may have been new to the school.
