Official Red Vietnam Response

Anyone know what the official response of the current Vietnamese government is to this movie? Has it been banned or will it be shown there?

reply

Well, recently Poland held an international film festival in which they requested some Vietnamese films. They requested "Journey from the Fall." Upon finding that JFTF was being shown at the film festival, the Vietnamese government said that had they known about this, they wouldn't have sent their films.

What does that say? You decide.

Naturally, this movie has been banned in Vietnam. This is the official announcement in the state-run media:

If you're wondering, the name of the newspaper is "Saigon Liberated", which is part of the propaganda being used to brainwasg school children to this date for the reason of the Vietnam war (in their view, South Vietnam was colonized by blood-thirsty Americans and the fearless communist troops from the North "liberated" the South).

reply

OMG, yes. It makes me hella mad. I hate communist Vietnam. My cousins there go to school with a picture of Ho Chi Minh in their classrooms, and every morning, they recite something to pledge themselves to the communist ideals of the government over there. Screw it all. When my ass goes to Vietnam, I'm bringing a *beep* of them DVDs and giving them out. Rebellion :]

reply

I am so lucky to have been born here. I hear stories about how my parents escaped and how my uncles that were captured were in these sort of camps. It makes me ill to know that communists can call themselves Vietnamese.

I'm happy that all of you stay in America.
You should wonder WHO is brainwashed.
Speaking like this shows you DON'T KNOW Việt Nam.

reply

Ahh, another useful idiot who quotes the party lines without knowing what really goes on. Leftists thrive on people like you. Keep up the good work.

Saying you're leftist is like asking if a bear makes in the woods. Obvious. Keep the propaganda going, red. Yip Yip!

So "jesus2099" is a leftist? That means he's a control freak who can't stand to see other people be free. But I would bet anything he loves his own freedom to speak out. Like Michael Moore, he loves the freedom to shoot his mouth off but sides with the Commie oppressors of free speech in Vietnam and elsewhere.

I'm an American who happens to live in Saigon at this time. (Not because I love the politics here, so let's please not get into a silly conversation about that.)

I'm only posting now to contribute this fact: DVDs of Journey from the Fall are available in stores here. I bought one 2 or 3 years ago.

I'll also just mention from personal observation that the government here seems pretty lackadaisical about keeping out "undesired" material. Compared with a country like China, internet censorship is almost unnoticeable (and also, when they do try to stop something from getting in, the block is almost laughably porous). Same seems to go for DVDs and books.

That said, if you happen to work for the government and it got known that you owned this particular DVD, it would definitely not be a good career move.

Badgers? We don't need no stinkin' badgers! But if you could show us something in a nice possum...
