Why is this not more popular?

I thought this was a great movie. Why is this movie not more popular in the USA? I can't even buy the DVD without special ordering it....

I think this movie dispells a lot of the crap from the anti-VNwar croud. The VNs had it really bad after the fall of Saigon. It seems us Americans are too willing to neglect that. Is that why this movie hasn't gained popularity with the general public?

(I am a "native" American by the way.)

The simple fact is that films not in American English have a very hard time making mainstream success. Even films made in the UK and other English countries have limited promotion in the US. Since this great film is basically entirely in Vietnamese, it loses appeal to the masses (sadly).

It did very well with the Vietnamese community in the US though. They really strongly supported this film.

I agree more with the original poster. If this film would have been anti-vietnam and in vietnamese I bet it would be hailed as a masterpiece. Americans already have a fixed mind set and what the war was, who were the bad guys and so on. So, the general public isn't going to accept a different point of view the war despite if it's a great film and actually is based in a lot fact. Let's face it, the baby boomer generation is in power and even thoguh I hear everyday (by them) that they are the most open minded, pro-individuality generation who never generalizes their generations mind control Political Correctness will not allow this film to be shown.
It's hard being a un-pc youth in these times.

Nice generalization of Americans...

I was thinking the same thing. I am not Vietnamese, but American born, parents from Texas, and have always lived in California. I do like to watch foreign films, and I just have to say this is absolutely, without doubt, one of the best foreign films I have watched. I am reccommending it to all of my family. Americans do like to watch foreign films, I know I am not alone, but this simply has to be that somehow, it has gone unnoticed, as there is everything in it to make it a masterpiece and little in it that can be critcized.

I gave it an 8.0/10, and encourage all who have not seen it, to watch it.
