Bale/Batman fans ?

i would bet that before The Dark Knight most here would say his acting was nothing more than OK and that the film sucks.

lol well thats a bet you would lose. you seem to be under the impression no one liked christian bale before TDK.
he acted had some pretty stunning pieces of acting before TDK - El maquinista, The prestige, 3:10 to yuma, american pyscho.
bales portrayal of batman almost pales in comparrison to this. this is some of the finest acting/character developement you will see in a movie today.

you should watch this movie again, but leave your preconceptions at the door. forget TDK. everyone else has =P

actually the first bale movie i seen was when i was in middle school back in summer of 99. All the little animals. Than i seen American psycho months after and i was blown away. I couldn't believe i was watching innocent bobby plat transform into patrick bateman. It's like watching johan santana switch up his fast ball to change up. You never see it coming. Im not a fan of his big picture films where he has less of a say in how his character is to be acted however he is gold in the independent market.

The best thing about watching a bale flick is that, you go into the theaters not knowing how hes going to play a roll but you know hes going to see a good performance. Well except for swing kids....wtf was that?

I did like his performance in this movie however.... This man is a great actor.

I would say that it's actually swung in the other direction since TDK and Terminator: Salvation. There has seemed to be a backlash against Bale and many people claiming him to be an "over-actor" and such. Before he became so mainstream he had a lot of hard core fans, some of which seem to believe he is selling out a bit. But I'm pretty sure everyone can agree that Harsh Times, and Bale's performance in it, is nothing special.

Ha! I envy people being pretty sure of what other people think ;)

I thought Bale did a great job in this film, especially with the accents and the tough guy mannerisms. His performance carried an otherwise mediocre film. The only people who really dislike Bale's acting are those who are unaware of the range of films he has been in and only see him in the blockbusters. If you have seen Empire of the Sun, Rescue Dawn, The Prestige, 3:10 to Yuma, The Machinist, The New World and of course, American Psycho, you would know that he is actually a very natural, subtle actor.

The things you own end up owning you.

I actually was half expecting him going "I'm Batman Ese.". I thought his overall performance was good for the character he was playing but the slang he was using seemed over the top and I had the hard time taking his character seriously.

I think Bale's performance was good in Harsh Times. I think the fact that we have seen Bale play more "intellectual" characters it comes as a strong contrast seeing Bale play a street wise fella using slang.

If we saw Bale as Jim before Bateman or Wayne, perhaps we would not have as a hard time believing it? It took me some getting used to it but I did not find it as hokey as say Damian Chapa shouting slang in Blood In, Blood Out.
