anyone from LA?

How accurate would you say Bale's accent, slang, mannerisms etc are?

reply

They are perfect. You really need to be young and from L.A. to appreciate and understand how well Bale pulled off his character in this film. If you are not from L.A. you would not understand. This movie depicts L.A. very well.

Well, I'm ten thousand miles from L.A. but I beeping do understand! ;)

reply

Very close. Growing up in this environment, his Spanglish brought up old memories.

.......like Korean shopkeepers selling individual cigarettes for a dollar.

Yea, I'm born and raised in Los Angeles too. Christian Bale definitely pulls it off. It sounds more like an East LA accent but he does a good job. Especially considering his real accent is British I think.

reply

his spanglish was pretty accurate of a white boy growing up in certain parts of LA. his mannerisms really lent to his vulnerability in the white collar world.

I don't know spanish fluently. How was his accent during those scenes?

reply

His accent was pretty heavy in Spanish. Which I guess is why he whispered most of his Spanish lines.
Sometimes it also sounded a bit European. Makes me wonder who was he listening to when he was going over his lines.
I've known white people who learn Spanish while living in east LA and they almost always end up with a slight Mexican tone.
