The news is still a distraction

Almost 60 years after Murrow, and the News has certainly changed. Except now the news glamorizes disasters and doom, instead of avoiding it, and still has an obsession with celebrities. It's all about the SHOCK factor. Yet the truth remains to be seen.

My feelings exactly! The media is stuck on hysteria and doom . . . tabloid journalism. Yes, and it's no accident. Yet, what do the publishers hope to gain by frightening the readers? The local newspapers have become the National Enquirer and Confidential. I can barely read the headlines. Glamorizing disaster and doom is shameful for US newpapers. I prefer to look at BBC online.

The news media rely on their ability to keep us living in fear. Fear gains the highest ratings from the mentally weak and insecure. The Chinese flu overreaction debacle is a perfect example.
