The narrator sounds exactly like Patrick Stewart!

It is indeed Patrick Stewart. I think the narrator was changed from the German version, to the English version. Animal Planet's website (http://animal.discovery.com/convergence/dragons/index.html) credits Stewart as the narrator.

Thank you for the info., I was thinking there was someone out there who sounded just like Patrick Stewart! And then I'm thinking, OMG, maybe everytime you think it's him, IT'S NOT HIM! hehe

According to DVD reviews, Stewart's narration is being replaced by Ian Holm. (This makes the third person to do narration for this film, as Bradley Lavelle did the overseas narration, with Stewart doing it for the domestic broadcast. The same company did the same thing with WALKING WITH DINOSAURS, replacing that narration by Kenneth Brannaugh with new narration by Avery Brooks.)

Bijou, you have it reversed. Patrick Stewart's narration on the Animal Planet version REPLACED the original British narration of Ian Holm AND Bradley LaVelle. It is also substantially different.

Maybe you overlooked the cast list? It's him. Ian Holm and Patrick Stewart narrated two different dubs of the film. Like how most BBC docs are aired when played in the US.
