Ozploitation?

It says in the trivia section this film is considered to be Oz (as in Australia) exploitation. How?

reply

Because it's semi-Indy and has an Australian in it?? That's as many things I can think of although I have to admit, the film does have a slight 70s Ozzy movie vibe about it.

Lucca Brasi sleeps with the fishes!!!

Most of the cast were Aussies, it was directed by Aussies, and it was filmed in Australia.

If you're asking "Did anyone else notice?", the answer is yes.

That's right, and yet it plays out like an American movie. That's why they say Ozploitation. You could tell it was Australia the moment they were in the bush. I don't really care, it's a good movie and I'm glad such a good movie was made here.

I'm with you. I get that it's a film made in Australia, by Australians and features a lot of Australian actors, but where does the exploitation factor in?

If anything, this exploits Australians far less than your usual USA film with lesser-known Australian actors, and aside from more Australian actors getting paid work, also likely brought quite a lot of money to the country.

If anything, it's an exploitation of American audiences (the main viewers) since America would have made very little money from this, and likely we got big names like Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe for pretty cheap even though they're big enough to draw a crowd.

I think IMDB needs to do a little bit of research into what 'Blaxploitation' was. It was in all essence, Black culture being exploited for comedic purpose by White people while the Black actors got paid very, very little.

The term has become totally over-used and misunderstood. Film-making is a global industry and Australia is a player in the game, as evidenced by this film. 🐭

I would say it's referred to that because it is an American production filmed in Australia for monetary purposes. Which means it's a *beep* load cheaper.

It most cases it's usually aussie actors don't get much work in American products unless they can hide their dialect.

However in this case there are a lot of aussie in this. So I wouldn't really agree.
