horrible, smug narration

the movie might have been more tolerable if not for the narration, which ruined it. the main character tries to be moody and mysterious, but just comes across as flat.

indeed, tried too much to be like American Psycho's narration.

Disagree completely. I don't think the narration was an attempt at mystery (after all, it explains stuff; that's what it's for) or moodiness. The guy has that sultry quality all through the film. If you don't like it in the narration, how do you like it in the dialogue? I thought the narration was quite witty, actually.

The narration IS horrible and smug, but that's not its flaw but its style. X looks like a mysterious, sultry character, and audiences would have loved him and tagged him as America's #1 gay film hero...until the voice-over comes along and reveals his true personality.
You see, the narration IS smug and horrible because X IS a smug and horrible person inside. True, he's trying to change that and he wants to become a better person, but he fully acknowledges himself to be a smug, horrible person. Without the narration, there wouldn't have been much of a point to the development of X's character. Some of his actions wouldn't have even made sense. I think it's a great addition.

I agree with Metal Angel. I liked the narration through. It made me laugh and added something extra to the movie.
