A GOOD EFFORT BUT ...

To get away from all the accusations of bias and self-interest, I'd just like to make an objective comment: why does the picture quality vary so much on the DVD? Some of the nighttime scenes are severely lacking in contrast, with a milky-grey instead of black, whilst others are okay. Similarly, some scenes are grainy or slightly out-of-focus. And some of the footage during the birthday celebrations looks strobed and/or speeded-up. Some of this might be deliberate, but I doubt it, as I spotted some jpeg-style artifacts at one point. The DVD-encoding could be responsible for some of this, but not the lack of contrast.
Otherwise, I enjoyed the film, although it wasn't really scary. To be constructive, I think it would have been more effective in the scenes where the spirit was making a lot of noise and voices, if the background music had have been cut. And talking of music, the cheesy rip-off of Psycho in a couple of scenes towards the end was a bit of a joke (maybe it was meant to be?).
