Thinking of watching this show.

I have heard a lot of mixed reviews about this show. I am looking to add to my "nerdy" show list.

In the list so far is

Big bang theory
King of the nerds
Scorpion
Chuck: No longer aired.

So how would numbers fit on a list like that? I have heard that is compares, at least in part, to scorpion.

Give it a go. It's nothing like any of the programmes you've listed (especially the truly appalling Scorpion, which has my incredibly brilliant and totally techy engineer husband in fits of laughter every time he watches it). N3 has its flaws, like all shows, but it is unique, entertaining, engaging and gets better and better as you go on through the seasons. And as long as you remember it's entertainment and not 'science, b*tches!', you're golden. 

I say give it a try too. At least the first few season were very good. What I liked most about it was the family relationship. Yes its a cop procedural show, and yes it highlights nerdy math, but the relationship between Don, Charlie and Alan was one of the highlights for me. I loved that each episode ended with a moment of bonding between the three of them usually. After Megan (Diane Farr) left the show and they began adding more characters and particularly relationships for the Eppes, I found the "family" dynamic a little broken and began losing interest. But it was a good show that had great potential.

I watch Big Bang already and they are not even close. I binged Numb3rs on Amazon and I would definitely recommend it.

I tried watching the first episode of Scorpion, but the blatant trope-y stereotypical characters on the show totally turned me off. Overweight nerd? CHeck. Young Asian hacker? Got it. Goofy hipster--complete with ugly hipster hat? Got that too. Yeah, just too many stereotypes. (The CSI Cyber show is pretty much the same, plus the storylines are really off-the-wall.)

Numb3rs is a good show. TBBT is good too, but of course, one's a drama and one's a comedy, so not really sure they should be competing against each other.

Better than Scorpion. Numb3rs has a better background story and an amazing cast, but overall it's just better written. (I like Scorpion but I'm unimpressed with the writing, so I quickly get bored with it.) I never found Numb3rs boring ... it was always engaging and thought-provoking, and I was sad when it ended.

This is a formulaic prime time style detective series incorporating a clever aspect of mathematics and academics with attractive characters in a very stereotypical American/Hollywood style.

I loved this show when it originally aired. I found the mathematical equation extremely interesting as having a different tool for solving various crimes in his older brother's criminal cases and with the use of applied math, these crimes get solved. The character of Don (Rob Morrow) is the physical brother, an extrovert and FBI agent who runs the FBI Violent Crimes Squad in Los Angeles field office. He is the physical brother who gets into shoot outs, fights but he is intelligent. Charlie (David Krumholtz) is the brains as a gifted young mathematical genius and professor of applied mathematics at a fictional California University and he is the introvert. Both brother get help in solving the various crimes from friends, colleagues and sometimes their father. This was not your average crime drama. i did have some issue with the math, but if you view it as entertainment and not about the math, science, physics and philosophy then I think you will like.

I would also recommend Numb3rs. As a recovering academic, I could relate to the setting for half of the show. I've always been a sucker for good cop shows, so that side of things merged perfectly with a world about which I knew so much. The cast was strong, especially the core Eppes family (Morrow, Krumholtz and Hirsch), who shared excellent chemistry. I've always enjoyed the work of Peter MacNichol, too. I found many of the plots intriguing.

A very good show to watch. If you are in it for the math as well as the storylines, use this site: http://numb3rs.wolfram.com/
