campfire scene -SPOILER ALERT!

i found the film only occasionally funny - mostly painfully awkward.

i agree with those who compare the film to larry david. i don't find seinfeld funny at all. i find curb your enthusiasm occasionally hilarious (crazee-eyes killa) and more often painfully embarrassing rather than funny. same for looking for comedy.

still, i found the campfire scene absolutely hilarious! as i look back, i understand this on several levels:

first of all these guys know how to have fun, and it's infectious.

secondly, they play such a great practical joke on brooks - blindfolding him and driving him over dirt roads in the night, scaring him half to death, but then getting him stoned by starlight and giggling together.

lastly - on the meta-level mentioned in another thread - the american goverment is clueless about the irony of a 500 page report on humor; brooks (the character) is not a funny man. india has no sense of humor. but the actual muslims in pakistan, whom we expect to be super dull, are - surprise! - fun-loving jokesters.

that one scene is worth the price of admission. i would rank it right up there among the best comic scenes i have ever seen. (a similar turn-about scene comes to mind from harold and kumar go to white castle. when h & k walk for a second time past the asian fraternity that they earlier wrote off, with contempt, as boring, eveyone's now partying enthusiastically, having way more fun than h & k; the dull asian girls are now flashing their bare breasts)
