Just Watched This Film Again...

And for those who get it, it is actually quite funny. The chalkboard improv scene is brilliant. It's classic Albert Brooks, something he could have done on the Johnny Carson show years ago. "I read an article that divorce has just come to Japan...and their digging it!" That's a paraphrase of a funny line. It's a shame that there aren't more Albert Brooks fans out there. I always thought he was a genius, who wrote and directed three back-to-back-to-back (?) classics (Real Life, Modern Romance, Lost In America) with Lost In America being a mini-masterpiece. I liked Mother also, The Muse not so much, but this film was a return to form. I know it doesn't rate very highly here on IMDb, and a lot of people on the message board don't like it, or don't get it. One kind of has to be a Brooks fan to understand what's going on with the film, I know, but if you're curious, maybe give it a chance. I'm hoping he writes and directs another one before too long, but who knows.

I just watched it. I actually thought it was a documentary and had avoided it for years. It was really funny!

What we got here is... failure to communicate!

I agree that it was a great scene. And a nice detail is the shot of Maya standing off to the side, taking notes and looking confused. :)

Now I'm gonna have to watch it again and look for that. I always love the background stuff, or reactions you might've missed, especially in a comedy. A lot of Albert Brooks' comedy is subtle and you have to be paying attention to get all of it sometimes. I don't have the DVD but I think the library does, and I definitely want to see it again.
