A cliche-riddled kids movie

This movie is for kids. It was like watching a bad episode of the 80s Transformers cartoon.

Predictable plot, full of cliches, over-the-top villains, annoying kid, underdeveloped characters, the whole shebang.

Kids of today probably never heard of Sylvester Stallone so they won't notice that the movie borrows heavily from "Over The Top" and the "Rocky" movies.

It could have been better if:
1. More about Hugh Jackman's character was shown, his past, his struggles.
2. Evangeline Lily had any use in the film. She was more like a prop.
3. The kid had been less annoying, but more importantly, they didn't need to make him a super-genius who knows everything about robots and can take apart and re-assemble one with added features.
4. The bad guys weren't so campy

But clearly the makers just wanted a really dumbed down movie for kids entertainment. Well they succeeded at that!

"I'm the dude, playing a dude that's disguised as another dude".

I think the campiness is part of what made it really enjoyable for me. It also has a lot of heart. It's kind of perfect for a movie about boxing robots

Well it is a kid movie. They just put the Hugh Jackman character to lure the dads.

reply

Well, yeah. They still make movies for kids.
