'Your secret is safe with me.'...?

What did Max mean when he told Charlie his secret was safe with him after the fight with Zeus? What secret...? This part just confused me.

reply

I assumed that he loved him.

Wait a tick....

reply

Yep, as above.

reply

Agreed.

reply

Oooooh, I was thinking that he was about to tell him that he wasn't his real dad, since he seemed surprised the kid was older than he thought he should be.

reply

Nah, I agree with the others in this thread. It seemed like he only didn't know how old Max was because he was so detached from everything to do Max's life.

I agree with you... at the beginning Charlie says he hasn't seen his ex-girlfriend in 10 years and assumes his son is about 9 years old.. later in the movie he asks again Max "are you sure you're eleven?" ant his answer get him thinking...
The age matter comes up 2 times during the movie, I don't think this is just a coincidence...

Charlie had some Real Steel in his pants. But seriously, this movie is great.

He was going to tell him that his mom didn't really die, and that he was really his mom.

But Max knew, because charlie was "really cool," just like Max's mom.

It was pretty obvious, did you watch the movie?

You are abusing the privilege of being stupid

Charlie and the robot exchange souls during the fights.

This is my favorite answer. Makes the most sense, really ties the film together.

Well done.

Yeah, I'm sure Max meant that Atom was his real father... /s

The secret was obviously that Atom loved Max. Projection, nonetheless... But when you consider that Max saw Atom as an ideal version of Max's father, Charlie, it makes sense. Atom fought for Max, just like he wanted his father to do. So yes, the secret was that Atom loved Max, as did Max toward Atom.

From the subtext running throughout the film, I think it was that the child's mother's personality had been uploaded into Atom. This makes Atom a much better fighter because the mother is trapped in the robot without a way to communicate, other than expressing her mental screams through fighting.

Wtf is wrong with you?

reply

Lmao

In the past few hours Max had sold Charlie to his aunt and her husband.
