Why did they put him in 200-level classes??

_Of course_ he's not going to understand any of the material! No one just dropping in would (unless they've been in the class or taken the class before). This show is going to scare the crap out of anyone entering their first year of college.

Overall, the show is pretty entertaining though. Tommy's a cool guy. It is obviously very produced (cameras all around as he "pulls over" to ask directions, etc.), but anyway.

...and that tutor -- I'd marry her.

Also he starts class in mid-semester, no real student would be allowed to do that. The first day of class is almost always, get the sillibus, quick overview of the comming semester, get told to buy the book, class dismissed a half hour early.

reply

It actually looks like the show is not a day by day experience, I think its like a week in the life.....why the 200 level not sure, I saw that too....

reply

I don't remember any classes leaving early on the first day. Actually I can't remember a class where the prof did did not teach on the first day and then give homework.

I go to UNL and Tommy came in the middle of Sept. when the semister was going on and only stayed about six weeks. So if they show him taking finals it is fake. He might have taken tests, but not finals. Also, at the end of the show there is small print with a disclaimer that tells the show is not a real reality show.

reply

You can tell its fake anyways. Because when he sent his room mate to spy on the english class with the webcam, so he knows what to do, you have cameramen filming the room mate doing it. So its clearly fake, no teacher is that *beep* dumb.

Almost every class leaves early the first day. The teacher discusses the syllabus and then says go get the books. Go start the homework. Bye.

I was really surprised by what is taught in colleges in America. I'm Scottish and the Chemistry and Physics and such in the show is the stuff that people learn when they are at school, at around 16. Some of it was stuff I learned when I was 14. Is 200 level the 2nd year?

reply

No, it is a lower level class. It is basically an intro or intro related class.

reply

Oh good. I was thinking good heavens, they're patronising the students of America.

reply

I was thinking the same thing, lol, I am taking A level chemistry this year and some of that chemistry I learned like 2 years ago when I was 16. And I wasn't even in a particularly advanced class or whatever,I really thought I should go to uni in the USA and have a really easy time of it!

What's with the leaf class??

Stop following me, I don't know where I'm going!

reply

Oh, that's an intro level horticulture I'm sure. As a student at the University of Nebraska myself, we have all sorts of bullsh*t lower level classes. I'm a history major, and I thank god that I don't have to take more than a few science/math classes!

But you'll find at most US universities that the 100 level classes are high school review courses, and the 200 level may go back somewhat and build upon it. The 300 level/400 level classes are usually your hard-core college courses.

Some of it was ok. The drum core was good. The rest of it was sort of silly. Why get into the music department or the film department. He just wasted everyone’s time. He did pretty well in the plant class.
