Incredible documentary

I downloaded this documentary and then bought it. I think it's phenomenal. I think it's unbiased, to the extent that political documentaries can achieve that goal.

I really loved the insights into both parties campaign strategies.

I think most people have aligned themselves with the right or left of the political spectrum, and they'll watch this documentary, and it'll reinforce their position.. but for people like me, independents who haven't made a definite decision one way or the other, it's great to look at both parties like this.

Great work.

What role did the large roster of actors play? Are they all from Ohio?

reply

Well said klintonb - I just saw the film for the 1st time on IFC & agree with your post whole-heartedly. I've been an Independent voter for 24 years now.

thread4brandon - the actors listed had very little to do the film. Most of them were just part of the Democratic campaign push at rallies. Probably less than a minute of interviews with the whole lot of them. The campaign workers on both sides are who the film makers focused on. It was well worth watching.

The only good thing about this documentary is that its evidence of revistionist history at work.

There's no mention of all the voter fraud that took place in Ohio and it paints a picture of the process as being fair and the better "strategist" won. It's simply not the case unless you believe that systematic criminal voter fraud is an acceptable strategy.

There was fraud, and they appealed to the religious. That's how they won. When you appeal to people's personal strong convictions, they'll show up. They used the strategy to distract from the fraud. The Bush voters even said so themselves. It was more important for their bible values to be protected than to be financially raped. I said this 4 years ago to my friends who laughed at me, and now, it's coming out.

Definitely. Moral panic. It's worked so well in the past and it continues to work so well.

But what's weird is a great part of it isn't what the Bible says, but what the church tells people the Bible says. The Bible only speaks against homosexuality ("he who lays with a man...") in Leviticus (and God seems pretty neutral about it in I Samuel, so it's either inconsistent or the common interpretation is screwy). Abortion and masturbation are also things the Bible never says are wrong.

I have no taste, but that just means there's less of a chance that I'll get eaten

Just reading an article about that the other day.
