Worth knowing before watching - it's a real family

I think it's good to know that this is a real family living their real lives, so for example it's not actors pretending to love their kids. And, according to the director, much of what we see isn't acting or scripted. She said it wasn't possible to make the children speak and do things on command, the film team had to wait for things to happen. Of course there's still the idea of a story and no doubt plenty of it was arranged but it's not all completely set up in the way of a normal film. I think it makes it more enjoyable to know this...

Really great to see a film where so little happens - you can feel some of the car chase/ultra-violence scars healing...

... and one of the rare cases where improvising wasn't done by the cast, but by the crew.

I actually liked that, after suspecting something like that was the case throughout the film, I had it confirmed by the credits at the end. It has put such a grin on my face! (I JUST finished watching it on TV.)
Although, it was good to have it further elaborated by you here - so thanks!

Let me take a guess, you watched it on SBS recently? Me too. This is such a beautiful film.

Indeed it was really nice to see a real family, the two parents and their three children, and all their sheep and cattle, with their nomadic life, to be the characters of the movies, and also the breathtaking inner mongolian landscape it was really beautiful also.

Those children are too beautiful for words! I love the scenes where they are just being little kids. You can tell it's not scripted, but with all of the cultural differences (house, toys, pasttimes) there is always something interesting to watch in this film).

Why do they all have different last names?
