Since I'm not an English mother-tongue I don't dare to rewrite the plot outlines and summaries. However, this is not a story of love between two Western journalists - it's more about how people in Leningrad survived during the siege, while to starvation and dangers of war were added the ever remaining presence of NKVD (KGV predecessors) and the heaviest pressure from the authorities ("make Lake Ladoga freeze or you'll be shot"). The film lacks the authenticity and nerve-strain of classical films about WWII (e.g. The Dawns Here Are Quiet) but it's certainly interesting to watch.
Thanks for the info! Now that I know it's not some self-absorbed love story between two westerners, but actually about what the title says it's about, I'm going to buy the DVD.
After I've seen it, I'll rewrite the synopsis. And, I'll be sure to re-order the credits as they appear on DVD. Hopefully, we can get Gabriel Byrne and that obnoxious skank Mira Sorvino out of top-billing.
By the way, greenwood-3, don't worry if you're not a native English speaker. Many people whose first tongue is a language other than English contribute to the IMDb. In fact, one of the Top-10 contributors is a Russian living in western Siberia! It doesn't need to be perfect English, just intelligible.
How'd these ppl hear about the film way back in the days? Than "motley moth"" says he going to buy the DVD & it just came out...good grief! Are we talking about the same film??
To CitiCelebriti: Hey, he is probably talking about buying DVD "Leningrad", not TV film "Attack on Leningrad". KoBura Film made two movies (one - full meter, another - TV miniseries...see here http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0432314/)....and those two are different stories with the same actors. TV version came out in 2007, the cinema version - in 2009. I saw only cinema version (very powerful) and I would say Olga Sutulova (playing Nina Tsvetkova - militiaman) and M. Sorvina (playing Kate Davis) should be credited as 2 main characters, ...and not G. Byrne - mind you, I don't have anything against him. I know the film was subtitled in English. Think Mira was speaking some Russian there..
