I don't get it

Someone listed here that a downside to the game is that you can't run...... soooooo do you WALK away fro your pursuers or something? How 'slow' do you actually walk in this game?

funny, i was just about to write a big post about that.

I want to buy the game but I am not sure if it's worth it or not based on some of that. When my character runs I feel more involved in the suspense than if they just walk away from it...

The game itself is good i suppose, it is terrifying, and it really does capture the Lovecraftian feeling of horror that you get with the books.

The problem is not with feeling involved, you will feel involved.

the problem is more one of frustration, personally I'm used to playing fps games so the character moving at a reasonable speed is pretty much a norm, the trouble with this is that you walk at a crawl which can make escape attempts so funny it hurts, at first, and then when you find that you have to do it again and again the slow motion escapes really start to grind.

Because the save function is done on checkpoints you may end up losing 20 minutes of gameplay just because you didn't realise that whilst running away you were supposed to push a grandfather clock in front of the door.

There is only one way of getting through this game, and if you miss one little thing especially in the hotel escape, you will die.

If you buy this game then buy it for the fear, but to be honest if you like a bit of action as well then Cthulu just doesn't deliver.

(For a much better scary game you should check out Clive Barker's Undying, you can run and everything!)

Yeah the hotel escape part was pretty intense but it started to pis s me off after i had to repeat it like 10 times because i forgot to lock a door or move furniture or i jumped bad etc.

The Hotel escape part would have been much more enjoyable if you could *beep* run.

OMFG!!! I really don't get you people! First of all, if you didn't notice, this game was never ment to be FPS! This is pure psycho/survival horror. It is not a counter strike type of game. What is ment here is that you feel week and unprotected because you always have small amount of bullets or medikits. And you can't run. That's what gives you feeling of tension. While Clive Barker's Undying is a shooting game with the elements of horror, Call Of Cthulhu is pure horror adventure. So I can't recomend it to people who want 100% action. This one needs more patience and all...

The hotel escape was irritating, when I wanted to lock the doors I opened them instead and BAM!! I had to start over again. Luckily for me I'm very stubborn when it comes to games so I don't give up that easy.

The main character does sorta jog. It's not fast by anyones standards. I did wonder sometimes whether I wasn't holding down the sneak key (PC version lol).

Though it really adds to the terror. Your character isn't a super athelete or a macho army cadet, he's a troubled P.I with plenty of mental health problems.

The hotel bit was annoying. I'd always miss one thing and then want to kick myself because it was so obvious. But if you've read "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" you'd know that it's a very faithful adaptation of that part (even though the Shadow Over Innsmouth doesn't carry on after the escape from innsmouth, and the main character sneaks out of town as opposed to the truck ride with Burnham)
