Great game until ...

you get a gun. Anyone agree with me?

yep indeed, the adventure part was more thrilling. but it still succeeds because it sticks on the great story.

the human mind is vacant and will be filled with hate, rejection and envy. thats why there is war.

I agree the parts up the guns were thrilling indeed, although I did breath a sigh of relief when the weapons were in my hands.

"Dont let him git away" ...oh yeh? blam. At first I felt defenceless and scared of baddies, but when I got the gun/shotgun, I felt I could defend myself and felt safer, it doesnt become scary anymore when ya have em.

I kind of liked the shooting part. Waving the gun around felt really realistic. The game wold be pretty boring without guns too. I loved the exploring part and when you escaped Innsmouth but its not like it would keep my interest forever. In my opinion the game was great until "the windy caves", this is where i lost my interest and left the game for a few days before completing it, after all, everything was revealed at this point, why the villagers were crazy, their plan and so on, and i had forgot the details of the beginning of the game.

But i have to say this game is one of my favorites. But one question ( BIGTIME SPOILER!!) Was jack one of those weird creatures disguised as a human, (and were the cult members from the first level?) or did they do something to his head while he was in their world?

I would appriciate an answer :)

Read "The shadow over Innsmouth" (The story they based this video game) in you will get it

Also, read "The Shadow out of Time," which deals with the Great Race of Yith (the tall cone-shaped critters you see at the beginning and end of the game). That should make the ending of the game much clearer.

My sentiments exactly.

Well, it's still a great game, but the guns do ruin the atmosphere of it being a psychological thriller. Use of guns become more subtle eventually. Aside from which, I'll be honest; it felt really good to mow down some Innsmouth citizens.

I didn't find this game very enticing when I got it, but I figured I'd at least wait until I got some weapons before I passed judgement on it. Wow, little did I realize just how long that would actually take. It actually became my only reason for playing, just to get a gun. It became an obsession. And then, I finally got that gun, and just like masterbating, the thrill quickly faded and my interest in the game dropped to nothing.

I think it was good until you get the laser near the end, because there, you don't get to use it much of anyone apart from Hydra and some Deep Ones. Even with a gun, I was still afraid to go around corners. Besides, the Shaggoth couldn't be defeated with any guns, and that was scary when it starts stalking you down the sewers and the pipes.

I don't think the guns ruined the game at all. i didn;t use the stronger guns very much, I played using mostly the 45. acp, and later on the revolver.I liked how both the pistols were pretty inaccurate at times (i'm pretty much Juan Halo when it comes to FPS gameplay but the difference between detective and soldier action was nice). Although i think everyone has to admit that the old school world war one rifle was awesome, and who didn't enjoy waving that shotgun at everything, including rats,in the sewer.
