Crap about this not copying godfather?!

for all those saying, that this movie didn't remake or copy (in essence steal) F.F. Copolla's "the godfather".... needs to get their head examined.

apparently it's a tribute to the godfather....what the hell?! has the godfather been given recognition within the credits? has their been an announcement that it is a tribute?
tribute! pfft..what the hell?

it's theft of material...pure and simple.

WARNING <spoilers>
-from the start, when the guy asks for help coz he's daughter's been raped.
-to the badguy asking permission/help for his drug business, and the refusal.
-to the wanting to assassinate the sarkaar/godfather.
-right down to him having a 'bad-tempered' son and 'smart' son.
-even the son's girlfriend who is always negative about his dad's life.

everything was copied! i didn't even bother watching more than half of it, coz it was just like watching godfather, but like a home-made version.
just because a movie changes a few names, adds a few extra characters/scenes...doesn't make it OK to copy the original and simply saying it's a 'tribute'!!!!

With information revolution and globalisation of 90s, any bollywood movie which is a rip off is exposed quickly even before release. So the Indian directors have now adapted the strategy to admit the source of 'inspiration' before they are caught by the public/media. They have discovered a sweet euphemism for plagiarism - Tribute. The latest case of a bollywood 'tribute' to a hollywood movie is "Eik Ajnabi" (aka Man on Fire). Sanjay Gupta, however is a director who is unfazed by any public outcries against rip offism and so he doesnt even care to admit 'tribute' or 'inspiration'.

PS : For those who wan't to relish Godfather, it is advised not to watch Sarkar. It will spoil the taste of the master movie.

Not that I bothered sitting through all of the film, but it was printed at the start that it was a tribute to The Godfather.

Well, all i can say is that atleast this wasn't the first attempt at a copy of Godfather. If you thought this was bad. Then i suggest you go and rent Dharmatma (1975).

for all u ppl talking abt godfather and sarkar...
Godfather is first a storybook and NOT a movie! so RGV hasnt done anything wrong in making sarkar, since he openly accepts that he wanted to make a hindi godfather story!

Its just like people think abt the lord of the rings, the movies, however they are, are nowhere near the book, neither are the godfather movies like the book.
sarkar is a very well executed movie, which shows how indian politic works sometimes, so if any guys like badmouthing even good hindi cinema, they should watch southpark and then yell that everything has happened in the simpsons b4 :P

umm yes it was a book...and they made a great movie out of it. (Actually 3)
they had a vison 2 adapt the story into a film, when the book was not well known.

this guy wanted 2 make a hindi godfather? that makes it OK then?
did these sarkar filmakers buy rights 2 the story? did they even SPEAK 2 F.F. copolla or mario puzzo? i don't think they hav even heard of this sarkar movie.
all this about "tribute" is a lie. they wanted 2 make money....didnt hav a story....got a dvd of godfather....and voila...instant story.
