Probably the worst soundtrack ever...

The movie itself was above average compared to a huge amount of Bollywood flicks. Camera motions and uses of closeups where great, and the acting was descent. But the score messed up the entire film for me. The overly pompous and contiously intense music kept getting on my nerves, and I was close to nosebleed after the countless GOVINDA repetitions. Yoko Ono just lost her rank as the worlds worst musician. Can't believe that anyone hasn't started a topic about this yet...

What did you guys think? Did anyone actually like the soundtrack?

I think the score needed to be simpler and more melodic, with no more than two instrumental elements. Using the flute was a good idea, but the melody was so *beep* annoying.
They seriously needed to ditch the music in a whole lot of places aswell. Every scene (except for one) contained some sort of noisy background music, and I'm not referring to the ambience. The overuse of music made it lose the whole touch. It lost it's entire significance.

Well..I'm just a bit annoyed, but I had a great laugh thanks to this movie though. And by the way..one of those last transition where the bad guys face (don't remember his name) is stuck on the screen from the previous scene (almost in the end of the movie) was so ridicolous.

Totally agree, worst score ever!!! Killed me! But a better score would not have saved this movie. It is a turkey in every way.

Yeah..I do agree with you there...it wouldn't have saved the movie, but it would have atleast made the movie watchable. Seriously..the music was tormenting.
I just thought it was good technically, as in the use of camera-angles and motions, event though they did over-do the "fancy" angles too much. Typical Bollywood though..overdoing stuff when they (think they) get the hang of something.

reply

I agree that the camera work was nice, but it did not serve the story. It was a show off and therefore it worked against the story. It was like watching a music video. A lot of fancy stuff, but totally out of context and overdone.

i think that the visuals were stunning. and i did like the soundtrack but except that one song that played like 5 times and keeps saying a work that starts with "G".... the camera work was just perfect for the film. not at all over the top.... you say it didnt serve the story ... i do agree but i think that this gives it a more fresh/modern appeal, visually, compared to the godfather.

Why does a dog lick its balls? Because it can..

Why do Bollywood industry bigs assault our senses with everything from kinetic visuals to incessant music just to milk out a little response from the filmgoing audience? Because they can..

I completely agree with you that the background score was way overdone, as nearly every scene had a pounding, pulsating score to accompany it. But that's Bollywood for you, where subtlety is an idea that doesn't exist (except for a few recent standouts).

By the way, did anyone else notice that in one particular scene involving Kay Kay, the background score was EXACTLY the same as the music used in the film Minority Report (particularly the one where the 'Spyders' search the apartment building). I've seen Minority Report a couple of times, so I'm sure it was the same. The music worked well with the scene, but it was such a blatant rip-off! I didn't see a 'Tribute to Minority Report' title card in the start of the movie.. lol

I can't believe someone thinks that the sound track isn't good.

Am sure u guys r all those Yash Chopra and Karan Johar lickers.

Boy - either u r in or out. U can't like both Yash Chopra and Ram Gopal varma.

Grow up guys - Bollyoowd needs a change, not the same old dancing around the tree movies.

i d/led the OST. it is mindblowing. u probably did not like govinda govinda because it was overdone. i agree it was overdone but it suited the film perfectly.
u guys probably would droll and lick ur drool over hollywood films with soundtrack which is catchy, conventional and played many times over in the film (eg: MI, MI2). so i don see why u shud have any double standards.

listen to the whole soundtrack and speak. otherwise u are only spking out of half-knowledge. please refrain.

the govinda song exemplifies the tension being played in the film.

and that Kay Kay scene and minority report scene have different music. i just checked. pls get ur facts right and don't just say "i could have sworn it's the same" without listening.

reply

Well, how could you have checked unless you rented Minority Report again, then watched Sarkar once again in the movie theatre to double check the soundtrack. Because I highly doubt they'll title the score as "Minority Report Theme" in the Sarkar soundtrack.

I don't claim to be an expert, but I've seen Minority Report at least four times, with the Spyder scene always a standout in my mind. So when I watched Sarkar, I was reasonably sure it was the same score.

I would disagree to the comment that the soundtrack was bad, especially in reference to the "Govinda, Govinda" background music. Govinda is a name for Krishna, Krishna was the prodigal son in his story as is Shankar in the story of Sarkar. The deep voiced singing gave it the feeling that it was something religious and that a moment of epic importance was unfolding. When Shankar avoids his execution by Rashid, he is saved by his friend who says "Run Sarkar!"; when the music "Govinda Govinda" comes in, it sort of acts with the dialogue as an indicator that the transition from Shankar into the next Sarkar is taking place, which I think is one of the most effective features of that scene.

I actually liked the soundtrack
