What was wrong with Chiaki's character? I think she was amazing. Except for that one part.

I am a fairly BIG Azumi fan but felt this one, while far from terrible, was severly lacking in alota parts. My biggest beef was the lame monotone-esqe soundtrack.. the first film's music was very effective and gave the film much "edgyness" and style... This one, the music was just down right dull.... The action scenes just weren't as good w/out the techony, fast paced themes of the first one.

but all in all, I still enjoyed it... just not nearly as much as I had hoped to. :(

i dnt love it, i just like it. but everyone i know who have seen this movie would always say the first one is better. and it is.

I kept kissing frogs looking for a prince.

Sure!
The first movie is a lot better, but the second was pretty good as well!
If possible, my ratings for this movies were: 8.5 for Azumi and 7.5 for Azumi 2.
As that is not possible, I ended up giving a 9 and an 8.

I guess this movie would be a lot better if some of the fight scenes were longer.
The movie is already almost 2 hour long and maybe that was the reason they made the fights a lot shorter. Who knows!?

See ya!

Yes, I loved this movie. Although I prefer to view both Azumi and Azumi 2 as two parts to one movie.

Some complain that the bad guys die too quickly. I disagree. When someone watches the first movie, Azumi's invincibility is only hinted at until the final fight sequence - which solidifies her as an assassin that is (as Earth Spider points out) "unusually skillful."

This invincibility creates a completely different expectation of the viewer in the second movie. When someone crosses her, you almost feel sorry for them. For example, when Kozue killed Nagara, taunted him, and skipped away merrily, I could not help but think to myself - and say aloud - damn, you are SO DEAD!

Also, Azumi's invincibility actually creates situations to admire the antagonists that can give her a run for her money. The two that come to mind are Bijomaru and Earth Spider, who put up quite a fight.

In any case, Azumi 1 and 2 is my favorite Japanese movie of all time.

I loved the sequel, I like the first better, but I still thought this one was good.

I think so many people didn't like it because it was different to the first. The person who directed the first has a very unique directing style, you can tell through all his films. So I knew this wouldn't be like it in that way. Even so, I thought they were both just as entertaining.

i definitely wouldn't say i loved this movie- btu i dodn't hate it either. It was okay in some parts, but the feeling i got after finishing it was 'so what?'. the first one was moving and haunting.

after i wached this movie, i thought... the movie is ok.
but later i couldnt get my mind of it, what is azumi going to do now, how does she feels after all what happend, is she ever going to meet Yae again, and so on. I rated this movie a 8 because of there arent a lot of movies wich i couldnt get my mind of suck like this one ( same oppinion abouth the first one ) i think there bot worth a 8!

HELL NO! it sucked! But I can't fault you too much. The 1st Azumi was amazing and Aya Ueto is the hottest japanese girl ever. So I guess I agree with you just because Aya Ueto and Chiaki Kuriyama are babes. Thats the only good thing about this movie. That and the part where that guy got sliced up and tried to push his face back on.

reply

thats japanese fun, i dont really get the taste of it but... alright

I think a lot of people actually only prefer the first film because there was loads of hype about it or something, theres really not a huge amount of difference in the movies.

reply

I don't know
I'm really not fond of the whole AZUMI thing, but because CHIAKI is in the movie i still like the movie nevertheless.

and the part I wish the FIGHT SCENE was longer
AYA vs. CHIAKI (i wish it was a longer and more action packed fight scene but WOOOOOSSHH!! Azumi killed Gozue in one blow) booo! booo! T_T T_T

ehehehe

I thought this film was just rubbish and a big dissapointment the first film was great but this one was just souless and seemed like a lame cash-in. I can only hope that the third puts the series back on track.

I too prefer to view them as two parts of the same movie and I like them both. I don't see "Azumi 2: Death or Love" as being "worse" than "Azumi", it's just in a totally different style. I am a big fan of Kaneko's kaiju films and "Cross Fire" and I personally like his style. I knew as soon as I heard he was the director for "Azumi 2: Death or Love" everyone would hate it because it'd be a lot different from the first one. However, I'd agree with the person who posted above me...they are both average really...kinda like most Hollywood movies these days (except that the Azumi films aren't remakes like most Hollywood movies these days).

It’s ironic that in this age of “tolerance” we are the most afraid of offending people.

I enjoyed it and felt it was tighter than the first but disappointing in some ways. I thought several charcters or scenes could have been utilised more.
