Big Dissapointment....

The first one was pretty cool if you're open minded...everything about it gave it that unique feel that was gone in the second movie......even the soundtrack....I really really liked it.

Part 2 is really bland....although it's not HORRIBLE, it's a bad way for Azumi to end. The bad guy characters were really bad, especially the fuzzy bear guy. Packed with fights, but very boring. I missed Kitamura.

I love this movie and I loved the way it ended. I didn't like some of the bad guys. Like Roppa and Earth Spider.

To be honest, I didn't see why so many people thought the first one was magic.

I think the second one is on par with the first, give or take. I could do without the 15min drama towards the end of the movie, just like the drama in the first one didn't shake me much either.

Flashy sword fighting with a cute lead actress. The appearance of Chiaki is a plus, I would've prefered if her characters was more developped. What was she thinking ambushing Nagara, but trying to fight the stronger Azumi directly?

well, Azumi 2:Death or Love was a major disappointment to me. To be fair, we shouldn't compare it too much to the original but inevitably, sequels will always be judged by how they rate up to the first movie. Azumi was emotional, meaningful, at times funny and heartbreaking. It had this surreal atmosphere about it and i felt carried away into the world of ancient japan. Watching Azumi2, however, I felt emotionally detatched. I didn't feel interested in the villains at all, they just didn't hit a nerve in me.
Like someone said before, Azumi2 felt bland, lifeless. The funky rock music that gave it this cool, edgy feel to the first movie was gone. That shouldn't detract from the movie itself, but nothing else made up for it. The fight scenes weren't all that flashy and impressive either.
I know this is typical to say but perhaps if they decide to make an Azumi 3 they should bring back the first director?
But owell, everything stated above is just my opinion. Refute it if you wish, but in a sensible and polite way please :)

Choocho...something, your totaly right in everything you said!
The Director change was the worst thing that happend to the Azumi series.
It will be kinda tricky to make a good Azumi 3 when this one one was very very bad. Dosnt matter if old director comes back, Azumi is scard for life :(

Hm odd i actually think azumi 2 is on par with azumi. And im a Ryuhei Kitamura fan as well O.o. I find it kind of funny though that in both movies the part i felt was worst was the big fights at the end. And those seem to be what a big selling point for the movies were. The big fights at the end of each movie were both very poor, theres no point having 100guys in a fight if they attack one at a time.
Yea but anyway part 2 is just as good and would be better if it weren't for the poor ending.

What Azumi needs is more funding so that they can at least par up with Battle Royale's special effects. The fight scenes get so cheesy sometimes with the lack of detail.

both Azumi 1 + 2 have now entered my top 20 all time fav movies...

AWESOME

This is second worst movie ever (just House of Nine tops it). And the worst follow-up, ever.
But it's probably an unfair judgement. Cause of the real high expectations i had, since i loved everything about the first one.

Nothing develops, nethier the story-line, the characters or the mood between the characters. And the end is horrible. Completely soulless.

And what's up with the Nachi lookalike? And the conversations. And the fightingscenes...Everything is just corny.
And what happent with the great soundtrack?

Ah well

I watched part 2 yesterday and it was as bad as the first one. Both Azumi movies were probably the worst foreign movies I have ever seen. Princess Blade was far better.

reply

both movies were disapointing, but i actually prefer the second one. zatoichi is still the best samurai flick to date imo. aya ueto is not a good actress but she has a strong and memorable presence in both movies

The sequel is like a cheap cheesy spin off of the first one, it's fun to watch it (even though boring at parts) but it's very inferior in every department, script, music, dialogues, directing, emotion etc. It seems it has been produced with a much lower budget, just to make money off the success of the first one which is being very disrespectful towards the audience and the fans.

reply

Good god Princess Blade had to be the blandest movie I have ever seen, totally dead from start to finish.

It's all good if you liked it but personally give me Azumi over PB any day.

reply

Personally, I felt the first movie wasn't all that great either... it seemed a bit.. pointless and it was so depressing cos everyone was dying.

But I agree that the sequel was even worse. It was boring, sterile and was just one battle after the other without any real plot.

What I heard is that Kitamura didn't want to do this because the Producer wanted to just cash in on the first film's success (plus he doesn't like doing sequels), so basically greed won over common sense and that's why we have this film. Producers eh?

I wanted to watch the Azumi movies after I saw Kitamura being interviewed by Jonathan Ross on one of the UK BBC TV channels and him saying how fantastic Versus & Azumi were. The first one blew me away and I have yet to see Versus.

I am really late with this comment only because I just recently seen azumi 2 for the first time. It was a very very very big disappointment to me. When in that movie did she fall in love at all? I thought it would have a bigger plot like she would have to choose from falling in love with Ginkaku or not following orders from tenkai-sama. She liked Ginkaku but didn't go very far with it. The only sad part was when Nagara died. I thought he would live since they made it seem like he died in the first one. Nothing super spectacular about the 2nd one at all.
